Details: Team India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first in the 1st T20I game against Zimbabwe at The Harare Sports Club, Harare. Ashok Sharma is debuting for India today.

Zimbabwe scored just 125/7 in their 20 overs after batting first. Mayank Yadav scared the Zimbabwe batters with his pace early on. They were more concerned about getting hit than actually getting in line and timing the ball. This meant Mayank prised out two early wickets, including a first-ball wicket. Ashok Sharma too bowled pretty rapid. In came the unrelenting Prince Yadav, who has been impressive since the IPL. The surprise wicket came when Raza smashed a long hop from Dube straight to deep mid-wicket. At 32/4, the hosts were staring at a total less than 100 but Burl, Madhevere and Marumani didn’t let the Indians pick regular wickets through the middle overs. Madhevere was particularly impressive but just couldn’t kick on to push this past 150. India will be pretty happy with their effort. 126 should be an easy target, especially with the sun beating down to take any bit of moisture that could have been there at the start of the game. Wessly Madhevere scored 39 runs of 34 balls and Tadiwanashe Marumani scored 27 runs in 20 balls. For Team India, Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav picked 2 wickets each.

Team India successfully chased down the target by scoring 126/3 in 13.2 overs and won the game by 7 wickets. After Ireland and England, this should ease some pressure on the Indian team, and they were quite bossy today. Shreyas also manages to end the streak of winning tosses and losing games. The team is happy and from now they will be keen to build on this win. They opted to bat and exploited anything the pitch had in store for the bowlers. Mayank Yadav breathed fire. Zimbabwe was threatened. Batters hardly tried to get behind the line and play. That fear forced them to slip early. All three pacers bowled well to reduce the hosts to 32/4. Middle order tried to build something substantial, but they fell well short. And in reply, Vaibhav got the team off to a flier and got his maiden fifty in international cricket off 19 balls. Ishan Kishan ensured the scoring didn’t slow down, and Shreyas gave him decent company too. With this clinical and easy win, India go 1-0 up with two games to go. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 50 runs of 19 balls and Ishan Kishan score 35 runs of 24 balls. For Zimbabwe, Blessing Muzarabani picked 2 wickets for 26 runs in his 4 overs quota.
