IDFC First Bank T20I Series 2023: Team India won the 1st T20I against Afghanistan by 6 wickets at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. Now I will share the details of this game match in my way.

1st T20I (India Vs Afghanistan)
Game Date: 11th January 2024
Details:
Team India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first in the 1st game of T20I series against Afghanistan at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.

Afghanistan scored 158/5 in their 20 overs after batting first. Inserted to bat, the Afghanistan openers stitched a fifty partnership but that came at a slowish pace. Both of them perished within a span of three deliveries and the visitors were 57/3 at the end of the 10th over. That’s when Mohammad Nabi joined Azmatullah to provide some impetus to the innings. They went after Ravi Bishnoi as the leggie conceded 35 runs off his 3 overs. The duo forged a crucial half-ton partnership. Both the set batters were removed in the same over (18th) by Mukesh. However, Najibullah and Karim Janat struck five boundaries in the last two overs to take their team’s total close to 160. It’s a good batting deck and with dew expected to play a factor, India are the favourites to hunt it down. Mohammad Nabi scored 42 runs of 27 balls and Azmatullah Omarzai scored 29 runs of 22 balls. For Team India, Axar & Mukesh Kumar picked 2 wickets each.

Team India chased the target successfully by scoring 159/4 in their 17.3 overs. A comfortable win for India. They restricted Afghanistan to 158 on a good batting deck, thanks to some disciplined bowling for most part of the innings. If not for the half-century partnership between Omarzai and Nabi, Afghanistan wouldn’t have crossed 150. In reply, India lost Rohit Sharma for a duck in the very first over as his opening partner was ball-watching. Gill struck five boundaries but his cameo was ended by Mujeeb. After scoring just 36 runs off the powerplay, India upped the ante. Tilak Varma became the second Indian batter to get dismissed in the 20s. Jitesh Sharma and Shivam Dube forged a 45-run stand for the fourth wicket and the duo ensured that India were all ahead in the chase. While the wicketkeeper-batsman fell playing a big shot, Dube notched up a fifty, got involved in three 40+ partnerships and remained unbeaten till the end to hit the winning runs. Shivam Dube scored 60* of 40 balls and Jitesh Sharma scored 31 runs of 20 balls. For Afghanistan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman picked 2 wickets 21 runs in his 4 overs quota.
