India qualifies for Semi-final of T20 World Cup 2026

T20 World Cup 2026: Highest ever successful run chase helps Team India to qualifies for the semi-finals. They have beaten West Indies by 5 wickets in their final Super 8 game at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Now I will share the details of this game match in my way.

Super 8 (India Vs West Indies)
Game Date: 1st March 2026
Details:
Team India skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to field first in their final Super 8 game against West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. No changes in Indian Team playing XI.

West Indies scored 195/4 in their 20 overs after batting first. They will feel they have left at least 20 runs out there. They did score 70 off the last 5 overs, but would that be enough? Remember, there is dew and it is not going to get any easier for the bowlers. Opting to bowl, India missed a run out chance and dropped a sitter in the powerplay (both off Chase), and that allowed both the Windies openers to grow in confidence, helping their side from 35/0 at the end of 5th over to 66/0 after 8 overs. Varun struck in his first over, but Hetmyer’s ultra-positive intent ensured no lack of momentum in the West Indies’ innings. SKY had to bring in Bumrah and India’s premier bowler delivered with 2 wickets in 3 balls. Things did slow down for the next 3 overs, but the duo of Holder and Powell got a few off the middle during the slog overs to steer their side towards what appears to be a slightly above-par score. How will India approach this? Roston Chase scored 40 runs of 25 balls and Jason Holder scored 37* runs of 22 balls. For Team India, Jasprit Bumrah picked 2 wickets for 36 runs in his 4 overs.

Team India successfully chase the target and scored 199/5 runs in 19.2 overs and won the game by 5 wickets and qualify for the semi-finals. Coming to the chase it was always going to be pressure despite West Indies being at least 20-25 short of what could’ve been a defendable total. But they hung in there with wickets. But that man – Samson played a defining knock. Taking risks when it was needed. Keeping the good balls out and turning the strike over when it was not there to put it away to the fence. SKY, Tilak and Hardik gave him nice little cameos, but it was Samson whose knock was the most important of the night. West Indies dropped two catches, whether that would’ve affected the final outcome is debatable. The dew made it a tad easier for India but nothing should take away the knock Samson played. And the relief on his face at the end of it all shows how much he has gone through mentally. Sanju Samson scored 97* of 50 balls and Tilak Varma scored 27 runs of 15 balls. For West Indies, Jason Holder and Shamar Joseph picked 2 wickets each.

WI: 195/4 in 20 overs
IND: 199/5 in 19.2 overs
