ICC World Cup 2023: Team India qualifies for finals after defeating New Zealand by 70 runs in the 1st semi-final at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Now I will share the details of this game match in my way.

1st Semi-final (India Vs New Zealand)
Game Date: 15th November 2023
Details:
Team India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first in the 1st semi-final game of ODI World Cup 2023 against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. No changes in Indian Team.

Team India scored huge 397/4 runs in their 50 overs after batting first. Phew! Incredible batting display from India. Opting to bat, it was captain Rohit Sharma who set the tone upfront which he’s been doing consistently in this tournament. India got off to a flier and the Kiwis were on the back foot from the very first over. A screamer from KW ended his counterpart’s knock and New Zealand would have breathed a sigh of relief. But India had other ideas. Gill became the aggressor and that allowed Kohli to get going. The former unfortunately had to leave the field on 79 as he retired hurt falling victim to Mumbai’s heat. That’s when Kohli and Iyer joined hands to stitch a mammoth partnership. They kept scoring boundaries at regular intervals and kept the momentum going. Both of them notched up their respective tons. Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar with ODI hundred number 50 and Iyer recorded his second successive century. Nothing went right for the Kiwis. Santner wasn’t at his best in his first seven overs and when he bowled well, the Kohli-Iyer duo managed to see him off. Santner went wicketless and post that, the Indians just put the foot down and went berserk. Iyer hit some towering sixes for fun and Rahul applied the finishing touches to get the total close to 400. Have India batted New Zealand out of this semi-final? Well, they have two big scores in this competition 383 vs Australia and 401 vs Pakistan! Crazy things have happened in this game. If Williamson and Co. get anywhere close to the target, we’ll be in for a thriller. Virat Kohli scored 117 runs of 113 balls and Shreyas Iyer scored 105 runs of 70 balls. For New Zealand, Tim Southee picked 3 wicket for 100 runs in his 10 overs quota.

New Zealand unable to chase the target and bowled out for 327 runs in 48.5 overs and lost the game by 70 runs. Tenth successive win and India progress to the final of the 2023 World Cup! 724 runs were scored and Super Shami managed to pick seven wickets. That’s an incredible effort. India’s first-change bowler struck off his very first ball and then followed it up with one more in his following over. Excellent seam bowling under lights and he nipped out both the New Zealand openers who were caught behind. The Kiwis fought back valiantly, courtesy a superb 181-run stand between Mitchell and Williamson. India were a bit sloppy – leaked extras, few misfields, KL broke the stumps before collecting the ball and Shami put down a sitter as well. India were under pressure for the first time in this tournament and Shami redeemed in style. He provided the key breakthrough by removing KW and trapped Latham lbw in the same over. New Zealand were in the hunt as Mitchell and Phillips forged a half-ton partnership. Kuldeep and Bumrah bowled four superb overs where they picked 2 wickets for just 20 runs. And then, Shami came back to produce the killer blow. Dismissed Mitchell, the centurion, and picked wickets for fun to finish with a seven-fer. Daryl Mitchell scored 134 of 119 balls and skipper Kane Williamson scored 69 runs of 73 balls. For Team India, Mohammed Shami picked 7 wickets for 57 runs in his 9.5 overs.
