Team India squad for upcoming white ball series against West Indies announced. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked an 18-member squad for the five-match T20I series against the West Indies. Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal have been rested for this series.

The squad will be led by Rohit Sharma with the possibility of KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav returning to the side subject to fitness clearance. Both had been sidelined by injuries recently and have been on the recovery phase. R Ashwin, who last played a T20I in November 2021, has also been added to the squad alongside other spin options like Ravi Bishnoi, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja. After a long hiatus from the white ball group, Ashwin had made a comeback in the T20I World Cup last year but has not been a regular fixture in the side since, with injuries also playing a part in his exclusion.

Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya, who have been rested for the ODI leg of the tour, find a place in the T20I side. IPL sensation Umran Malik, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson are missing from the list as well. All three were a part of India’s squad for the first T20I against England. However, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been rewarded after his impressive debut against England in the opening T20I, where he returned 2/18.

India are set to play three ODIs and five T20Is on the tour of the Caribbean. Two of those T20Is are set to be played in Florida, USA. India had already named an ODI squad that was missing their regular members and to be led by Shikhar Dhawan with with Ravindra Jadeja named vice-captain. India will play three ODIs in Trinidad, starting 22 July.

Several key members of the ODI squad, including regular captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah among others, have been rested for the series.Deepak Hooda has been rewarded for his impressive showing in the recent T20Is and finds a place in the squad. Shubman Gill returns to the ODI setup for the first time since the tour of Australia in 2020.

With Rishabh Pant rested, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson will be the designated wicket-keepers. The spin trio of Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel will be tasked with leading the bowling attack in the absence of senior fast bowlers.

India have opted to field a young, inexperienced pace attack for the series. Shardul Thakur, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh complete India’s fast-bowling unit. Of the five, the most capped is Shardul Thakur with 19 ODIs while Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh are yet to make their ODI debut.
