Mumbai Indians scored 129/8 runs in their 20 overs. A top notch effort by Delhi Capitals has helped them restrict Mumbai Indians to a paltry total of 129/8. Having put in to bat first by Pant, Mumbai lost an early wicket in the form of Rohit Sharma as the MI skipper was dismissed by Avesh Khan within the powerplay itself. Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav got starts, but Axar Patel got rid of both of them and hence Mumbai Indians were deprived of any kind of momentum. Nortje bowled a quality wicket-maiden that included Pollard’s priced scalp, and Avesh Khan made sure not to allow the Mumbai Indians bounce back. Axar and Avesh bagged three wickets each and Nortje was quite economical too. Delhi made use of the variations to perfection. Suryakumar Yadav scored 33 of 26 balls and Quinton de Kock scored 19 of 18 balls. For DC Avesh Khan and Axar Patel picks 3 wickets each.

Delhi Capitals successfully chase the target by scoring 132/6 in 19.1 overs and won the game by 4 wickets. For MI chances to qualify for the play-offs are now very bleak. Shreyas Iyer lifts his arms in joy, Ricky Ponting punches his fists in delight and Delhi Capitals are one win away from confirming a top-2 finish. With their positive net run-rate, they might have actually done so, can’t see them losing badly in the next couple of games. Mumbai Indians needed wickets if they were to halt Delhi’s resurgence, they kept chipping away, but they needed a bit more fuel in the tank if they were to defend 130. Both openers fell cheaply, so did Smith, but Shreyas Iyer dropped anchor and Rishabh Pant threw caution to the wind. The latter kept taking risks and he ended up throwing his wicket away, Shimron Hetmyer played a small cameo, but it still needed one sensible partnership to keep Delhi afloat. That came when Ashwin joined his former captain with the required rate under control, they pinched ones and twos, the occassional boundary came and Ashwin then finished with a six. MI, KKR, PBKS and even RR are still there somewhere, with perhaps one slot to fight for. Shreyas Iyer scored 33* of 33 balls and skipper Rishabh Pant scored 26 of 22 balls. For MI Yadav, Bumrah, Boult, Coulter-Nile and Pandya picks 1 wicket each.

– Mumbai Indians have been the worst performing side in the death overs this season. They have lost the most wickets (38), have the lowest average (11.58) and lowest run rate (8.68) in this phase.

– Steve Smith also has the worst six-hitting percentage (2.19) in the last three years of IPL.
