Vikrant Rona Review: Too confusing horror mystery drama with Kiccha Sudeep’s swag is major highlight
Vikrant Rona Movie Rating: 1.5 Stars

Just watched Vikrant Rona movie in Hindi on Disney Plus Hotstar. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Kichcha Sudeep, Nirup Bhandari, Neetha Ashok and Jacqueline Fernandez
Director: Anup Bhandari
Release Date: 28th July in Cinemas & Digital premiere in Hindi on Disney Plus Hotstar from 17th September 2022

Story: Movie is set in the small village of Kamarottu, Karnataka where Janardhan Gambhira (Madhusudhan Rao) is a short-tempered landlord who lives with his wife Santha (V Priya)and his brother Eknath (Ramesh Kukkuvalli). His friend’s son, Vishwanath Ballal (Ravishankar Gowda) arrives at the village with his wife and two children Aparna and Munna.

Vishwanath tells that Panna (Neetha Ashok) is engaged to Rakesh and that he wants to arrange the marriage in their ancestral Kamarottu house but he refuses as the house is haunted by the brahmarakshasa. This is due to his son Sanju (Nirup Bhandari) having stolen jewels from the village’s temple, 28 years ago and one day he arrives at the village.

A parallel track going in the film is that of a cop named Suresh Krishna is posted in the town of Kamarottu. He mysteriously gets murdered. Inspector Vikrant Rona (Kichcha Sudeepa) there and told to take up Suresh’s place. Vikrant arrives in Kamarottu with his daughter Guddi (Samhitha) and starts investigating the murder and this is where he learns that nearly 16 children have been killed in the town.

The villagers believe that the town is haunted and it is an evil spirit who is behind these murders. But he realises that the killings also have a close connection with his life. Who is behind the murders?

Positives
1. Excellent Performances
2. Climax
3. Cinematography

Negatives
1. Music
2. Story
3. Length
4. Screenplay
5. Direction

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on digital premiere because trailer looks interesting and also it is backed by Salman Khan Films.

Police inspector Vikrant Rona comes to a village where people, especially children, are being indiscriminately murdered by someone. There’s a belief that an evil spirit is behind these killings. While he is trying to solve the case of these murders, he realises that the killings also have a close connection with his life. Who is behind the murders?

Vikrant Rona is a revenge story but it is so confusing that the you can gets put off. Adding to the tale of woes is the fact that the actors are mostly unrecognisable faces as they are from the Kannada film industry and what’s more, the characters they play have such difficult names that it is a task to keep track of the characters and the actors. Screenplay is also written in a way that the drama goes back and forth slips into flashbacks and then returns to the present times a number of times and confusing even more. Even that would’ve been acceptable had the back-and-forth travel of the drama generated suspense and excitement of the kind which wouldn’t have been possible in a linear narration, but that doesn’t happen. Neither is the revelation of the suspense worth the drama going into so many flashbacks nor is the confusing screenplay conducive to holding the interest.

Direction is not upto the mark. To give credit where it’s due, the film is mounted on a huge scale and he has handled the grandeur very well. He also successfully brings out the eerie atmosphere. However, these factors can’t help salvage a film. One needs to relate to the goings-on and root for the hero. Sadly, that doesn’t happen as one can won’t be able to connect with the storyline. Several questions remain unanswered and, certain developments are very silly. The film should have been shorter by around 20 minutes. There are also few positives apart from the performances cinematography is spectacular. The locales are very well captured. Climax is also very good

Overall, movie fails to impress due to the poor script, direction and long length. Its too confusing for the Hindi film lovers. If you are up for a decent horror mystery told in a loud and dramatic style with an extra focus on Kiccha Sudeep’s swag, you wouldn’t mind this one. My view on this movie Time Pass.
