Team India squad for upcoming test series against New Zealand announced. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked the squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand.

Ajinkya Rahane will lead the team in the first test and Cheteshwar Pujara will be vice-captain. Virat Kohli will join this team for 2nd test and lead the team. Here is the official tweet from BCCI:

India’s Test squad: Ajinkya Rahane (Captain), KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara (vice-captain), Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper), KS Bharat (wicket-keeper), Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Axar Patel, Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Md. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna

Team India will be without Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami in the upcoming two-match Test series. This quartet has been rested as a part of their workload management in addition to regular skipper Virat Kohli, who will return in time for the second Test in Mumbai, starting December 3. The pace duo and Kohli, who recently relinquished T20I captaincy have already been rested for the three-match white-ball series which precedes the Tests.

Uncapped in Tests, Shreyas Iyer could be in line for his red-ball debut after earning the call-up to the side that sees several fresh faces. Andhra wicketkeeper-bat Srikar Bharat who was a standby for COVID-recovered Wriddhiman Saha for the England tour earlier this year, has been added to the squad now, while a comeback in the whites is on the cards for opener Shubhman Gill, who last played in the WTC finale.

Suryakumar Yadav, Prithvi Shaw, Hanuma Vihari and Abhimanyu Easwaran who were all part of the subsequent Test series, against England, have been left out from the 16-member list along with Shardul Thakur who will be out of action from the preceding T20Is as well.

Uncapped Prasidh Krishna who was promoted from the reserves on the England tour has retained his place in the squad that sees the comeback of off spinning allrounder Jayant Yadav to the national fold since last taking field for India in the Pune Test against Australia in 2017. His inclusion comes on the back of a prolonged time off for Washington Sundar who is yet to fully recover from a finger injury sustained in July, ahead of the England Tests.
