New Zealand scored 163/7 in their 20 after batting first. Excellent death bowling from Pakistan because NZ had set themselves up for a score in the 175-180 range. The innings revolved around a typically sublime Williamson innings with the skipper finding his range from ball one and it was a welcome return to form for him. Phillips and Chapman gave him able support on a surface that wasn’t the most straightforward to hit through the line. Pakistan’s bowlers used the slower balls well, particularly in the slog overs only 33 runs came off the final 30 balls and that’s left New Zealand a bit short at least mentally. They definitely have a respectable total, and it is a two-paced deck, but it isn’t daunting by any means. Pakistan certainly the happier side going into the break. Skipper Kane Williamson scored 59 runs of 38 balls and Glenn Phillips scored 29 runs of 22 balls. For Pakistan, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf pick 2 wickets each.

Pakistan chased down the target successful by scoring 168/5 in 19.3 overs and won the game and series. Terrific run chase from Pakistan and the fact that they have done it in a final without significant performances from the Babar-Rizwan pair will give them an incredible morale boost. 164 was a slightly under-par target but on a surface that was slightly two-paced and keeping low, NZ weren’t out of the game by any stretch. And their bowlers stuck to it in the first half of the chase, picking Babar early and then stifling the Rizwan-Masood pair of any momentum although the southpaw broke the shackles briefly. Both fell to the mounting asking rate and you thought that a familiar collapse was incoming. Nawaz and Haider though, had other ideas. In a breathtaking counterattack which is so un-Pakistan like, the duo tore into the bowling with Sodhi suffering the most. The leggie was taken for 25 in an over that probably was the turning point of this chase. Haider fell shortly but he had done his job by then. Despite Asif not stepping up, Iftikhar kept his calm and gave Nawaz company till the end. The latter managed to produce clutch knocks for the second day running and a performance like this in a final certainly will give him immense self-belief. NZ will be shaken a bit. They controlled the game fairly well but once that onslaught started, they had no answers. They’ll rue the finish with the bat too, clearly were about 15-20 short. Mohammad Nawaz scored 38* of 22 balls and Mohammad Rizwan scored 34 runs of 29 balls. For New Zealand, Michael Bracewell picks 2 wickets for just 14 runs in his 4 overs quota.
