Suryas Saturday Review: Enjoyable action drama despite flaws thanks to performances and background music
Suryas Saturday Movie Rating: 3 Stars

Watched Stree 2 movie in Cinema. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Nani, SJ Suryah, Priyanka Mohan, Abhirami, Aditi Balan, P. Sai Kumar, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Murali Sharma and Ajay Ghosh
Director: Vivek Athreya
Release Date: 29th August 2024 in cinema

Story: Movie revolves around Surya (Nani) who has given his late mother Chayadevi (Abhirami) a promise to keep his anger in check for six days in a week, unleashing it only on Saturdays against those who wrong him. He picks the side of weak and vulnerable to fight against the bad guys.

Surya lives with his father Sankaram (P. Sai Kumar). He is an LIC agent by profession who leads a normal life for six days and makes note of people who wronged him or anyone else on the rest of the days and gets time to process his anger till Saturday. And when he feels his anger is justified, he thrashes the people who angered him. His sister Bhadra (Aditi Balan) disconnected with them after marriage due to his anger issue.

It is policewoman Charulatha (Priyanka Mohan) who brings Surya and Circle Inspector Dayanand (SJ Suryah) together. Surya and Daya suffer from the same issues. While Surya doesn’t show his anger, Daya is a ruthless monster who displays his anger right then and there for all the wrong reasons. An untoward incident in Sokulapalem (where Daya picks random people and beats them to a pulp) pits Surya against Daya.

What ignited Surya’s fury against Daya? How does the politician Koormanandam (Murali Sharma) fit into this tangled web? And who really is Charulatha? How Surya gets involved in the issues and what he does to solve them is all about this movie.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in cinemas as loved the trailer and liked previous few movies of actor Nani. The film tells a story about a man named Surya who fights against injustices on Saturday and ends up clashing with Daya a corrupt police officer.

Suryas Saturday plot is a simple & routine one but Vivek Athreya’s magic with screenplay made the film standout from the other commercial films. The film doesn’t go overboard with over-the-top emotions. It shows restraint and concentrates on its core idea of how anger affects and impacts one’s life. You can see the clever writing in every corner. Despite having a family backdrop, the film doesn’t get melodramatic. This is where Vivek Athreya’s clever writing comes to the fore. The director introduces the concept of Narakasuran and Yama-Chitragupta and incorporates them in with his clever writing. Background score plays a crucial role in elevating the film’s overall experience. Nani delivers a standout performance as a man who suppresses his anger throughout the week, only to unleash it on Saturdays. SJ Suryah impresses as the ruthless cop Daya, bringing a unique intensity to the role. Murali Sharma plays a politician with adequacy, while Sai Kumar makes his presence felt. Aditi Balan, Harshavardhan, and others deliver their roles with finesse.

Despite an intriguing concept, the film suffers from narrative issues. The first half of the film is primarily focused on character introductions and feels somewhat sluggish. Although the second half starts strong, it loses steam towards the climax that could have been more impactful. The film’s lengthy runtime may deter viewers who prefer a more dynamic pace. A tighter screenplay could have improved overall engagement, especially during the face-off scenes. Songs does not have much scope in the film. There are some convenient coincidences too.

Overall, movie is an enjoyable action drama featuring standout performances from Nani and SJ Suryah, complemented by a remarkable score. However, the slow narrative in parts and an extended first half somewhat diminish its impact. My view on this movie Recommended.
