Team India scored 306/7 in their 50 overs after batting first. A late blitz from Washington Sundar takes India over 300. He was on fire out there to provide the flourish towards the end. India got off to a strong start with a 124-run opening stand between Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill. But a bunch of wickets threatened to derail the innings as they slipped to 160/4. Shreyas Iyer held it together though, looking scratchy at the start but then pressing on the accelerator while finding good company first from Sanju Samson, and then from Washington to close off the innings nicely. It’s still only a par score according to Washington himself. There was some movement with the new ball, but the pitch seems pretty good to bat on once that threat is seen off. But we’ll find out more when both sides bat on it. Shreyas Iyer scored 80 runs of 76 balls and skipper Shikhar Dhawan scored 72 runs of 77 balls. For New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson & Tim Southee pick 3 wickets each.

New Zealand chase down the target successfully by scoring 309/3 in 47.1 overs. Tom Latham has run away with the game after walking in at 88/3. New Zealand were struggling to get going, and India were ahead at that point. But what followed was just sublime batting. He looked fluent right from the moment he came out, brought up his half-century at close to a run-a-ball, and then went into a whole new level from the 40th over onwards. It was in that over that Thakur refused to bowl anything but short deliveries, and Latham kept hammering them into the boundary. He smashed a six and 4 consecutive fours and blew India away. Umran was the only one who caused him some trouble, and he had an impressive outing. Washington was quite economical as well. But apart from those two, the rest of them took a hammering. To be fair, this pitch had a lot more runs in it than the 306 that India managed. Tom Latham scored 145* of 104 balls and skipper Kane Williamson scored 94* runs of 98 balls. For Team India, debutant Umran Malik picks 2 wickets for 66 runs in his 10 overs quota.
That's that from the 1st ODI.
