Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings Movie Rating: 3 Stars

Just watched Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings movie on Disney Plus Hotstar VIP. So let’s focus on the cast, release date story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Ronny Chieng
Director: Destin Daniel Cretton
Release Date: 12th November 2021 on Disney Plus Hotstar VIP

Story: It begins with the introduction of a man named Xu Wenwu (Tony Leung) who finds the mystical ten rings that grant him immortality and great powers. The plot follows Wenwu as he amasses an army of warriors called the Ten Rings and conquers many kingdoms and topples governments throughout history. He is in possession of ten rings which give him super-powers and have made him immortal.

While on a mission to conquer the mythical land of Ta Lo, Xu fights with Jiang Li (Fala Chen) and ends up falling in love with her. Wenwu abandons the ten rings and his organization to be with his family and they have 2 kids Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) and Xialing (Meng’er Zhang). However, Li is eventually murdered by the Iron Gang, old rivals of the Ten Rings, and Wenwu once again takes up the rings to massacre them and resume his criminal activities.

Li started to train little Shang-Chi to become an expert fighter so that he can avenge his mother’s murder. Shang-Chi resents the path adopted by his father and one day, runs away from him. He promises his sister that he would return soon but he settles down in San Francisco. There, under the new name of Shaun, he befriends Katy (Awkwafina).

Shang-Chi and Katy are content being valets who park the cars of the rich and famous. But Shang-Chi’s real identity is revealed while travelling in a bus with Katy and he fights the evil men sent by his father to track him down. Back home, Shang-Chi learns that his father wants to go to Ta Lo once again to save his dead wife as he thinks, she is actually locked up there. What happens thereafter? Is Jiang Li actually locked up in Ta Lo? Does Shang-Chi assist his father in his mission or does he revolt against him?

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie once released on OTT as I am big Marvel superhero fan and curios to see the new hero with different story.

The film starts off on a light note with basic character introductions and soon progresses into laying the groundwork for what is to come. Once Shang-Chi and Katy are introduced, the plot fast moves to revealing who they really are and their backstory. From there we see new characters being introduced, which helps move the story forward. The second half of the film though is a well-executed and built action sequence that sees almost all of those introduce in the first half participating.

Movie has extremely interesting story that has action, emotions, family sentiments, mythology, fantasy, etc. The first half moves like a bullet and gives the audience absolutely no time to think. The second half also keeps the viewers pretty involved although the interest level dips occasionally and for brief periods of time. There’s an after-movie-ending scene which is fantastic. It has been beautifully written and executed in an extraordinary manner. My view on this movie Recommended.
