Saina Movie Rating: 2.5 Stars
Just watched Saina movie in Hindi on Amazon Prime Video. So let’s analyze the cast, release date, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.
Cast: Parineeti Chopra, Meghna Malik, Subhrajyoti Barat, Manav Kaul, Eshan Naqvi and Ankur Vikal
Director: Amol Gupte
Release Date: 23rd April 2021 on Prime Video
Story: It is the story of the making of a legendary badminton player. Saina Nehwal (Parineeti Chopra) is a young girl who has just shifted from Hisar, Haryana to Hyderabad. Her mother Usha Rani (Meghna Malik) and father Dr. Harvir Singh Nehwal (Subhrajyoti Barat) were also badminton players even her mother has been a district level badminton player in Haryana and she sees the same streak in Saina who is her younger daughter.
She decides to enroll her for badminton training. Despite the centre being almost 25 kms away, Usha makes it clear that she wants Little Saina (Naishaa Kaur Bhatoye) to learn the sport. At the stadium, a coach says that the batch is full and hence, she can’t be enrolled. But Saina shows off her skills and it surprises everyone. Hence, she is given a chance. Under the guidance from her coach and motivation from her mother, Saina’s game improves. Usha convinces the coach to enlist her for district level and other such tournament despite the fact that she’s too new. Saina, however, surprises and emerges victorious in these tournaments.
Finally, one day, she gets a chance to play for the Indian national team. All is going well until one day, just before her first match overseas, Usha Rani meets with a road accident. She is hospitalized in a critical condition. Saina has no choice but to continue with her practice. At Prague, she manages to win the game and soon she learns that Usha Rani is out of danger. Later, her mentor asks her to get a better coach now that she is in another league. Saina hence joins Rajan Academy run by a disciplinarian, Sarvadhamaan Rajan (Manav Kaul).
With Saina her friends Eshan Naqvi (Kashyap) is also her love interest and two of his childhood friends Rohan (Rohan Apte) and Damodar Sharrman Dey joined that academy. Rajan was a celebrated tennis player at one point. He had lots of endorsement offers but he declined all of those as he felt it would corrupt his idea of the sport. He makes it clear that he expects the same from his students and that if they follow his style and coaching, they could become top players.
Saina follows all the instructions of Rajan and even drastically changes her diet just on the insistence of Rajan. His methods bear fruit and Saina further goes up. However, soon there arises friction between her and Rajan. Will Saina become no.1 Badminton plyer and what happen between her and Rajan. It forms the rest of the film.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : > When I watched the trailer planned to watch this movie in my free time because unable to watch this movie in cinemas due to Covid-19 and it’s a biopic of our star badminton player Saina Nehwal.
The film follows the career highs and lows of the former world no 1, India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal. It also pays tribute to the people who immensely contribute to her resilience and unbreakable spirit. While there are inspirational moments, the story does not have consistency in the sense that the viewers do not feel inspired throughout the drama.
As Amole Gupte’s story and screenplay unfold, the audience often gets the feeling that Saina’s story is neither universally appealing nor emotional enough nor even inspirational enough to devote an entire feature-length film to her. A humane story of an iconic hero ought to move the audiences emotionally, and inspire them to emulate the hero but this story does not do so. The audience watches her story unfold on the screen in quite a detached manner without really rooting for her.
At times, Saina looks too confident and arrogant, thereby further losing the audience’s sympathy. The rise of Saina and her various victories don’t give the audiences the high they should have been given. Conversely, her defeats never really make the audience feel bad for her. The tension-ridden tournaments don’t make the viewers bite their nails.
On the whole, Saina is too unexciting to prove victorious on the box-office field. It neither moves the viewers emotionally nor inspires them much. He has not been able to make an emotional and inspirational human drama despite talking about a national icon.. My View on this movie Time Pass!!
