Rohit Sharma to lead Team India against New Zealand in upcoming T20 series. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked a 16-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. India are set to play 3 T20Is starting from 17th November 2021.
Rohit Sharma announced as new captain as a replace of Virat Kohli and will captain a 16-man squad for the T20 series and fellow opener KL Rahul acting as the vice-captain. This will also be the first assignment of the new Head Coach Rahul Dravid who takes over the reins from Ravi Shastri. Here is the official tweet from BCCI:

Virat Kohli, whose tenure as India’s T20I captain came to an end at the conclusion of their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup tournament has not been included in the squad. Apart from Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami has been rested.
Shardul Thakur, Varun Chakravarthy and Rahul Chahar who were part of the 15-member T20 World Cup squad, are the others to miss out. Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar, who were all part of the travelling reserves at the T20 World Cup have been included in this squad along with Axar Patel. Meanwhile, Yzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Siraj have also returned to the side.
Impressive IPL 201 performers Ruturaj Gaikwad, Venkatesh Iyer, Harshal Patel, and Avesh Khan have all been named in the T20 squad. Avesh, Venkatesh and Harshal, meanwhile, were part of the India bubble at the World Cup and helped assist the team in its preparations. Gaikwad was also part of Team India who played a recent T20 series against Sri Lanka. Below is the schedule of T20 along with date and venue:

India will look to start building towards the next T20 World Cup in Australia after a disappointing performance in the UAE which saw them losing their opening two games to Pakistan and New Zealand. Despite winning their last three games handsomely, India did not have enough points to qualify for the semi-finals. The squad for the two subsequent Tests, at Kanpur (November 25-29) and Mumbai (December 3-7), will be announced later.
The Committee also picked the India ‘A’ squad for the South Africa tour scheduled to start from 23rd November 2021 in Bloemfontein. The team will play three four-day matches during the tour.
Jammu & Kashmir fast bowler Umran Malik and Karnataka opener Devdutt Padikkal have been picked in the India A squad that will be on a shadow tour of South Africa just before the senior team. The 14-member team, led by Priyank Panchal, is scheduled to play three four-day games in Bloemfontein, starting on November 23. Uttar Pradesh’s Upendra Yadav is picked as the only wicketkeeper in the side.
