Plan A Plan B Review: Predictable romcom about the lives of two people who are diametrically opposed
Plan A Plan B Movie Rating: 2 Stars

Just watched Plan A Plan B movie on Netflix. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Riteish Deshmukh, Tamannaah Bhatia, Bidita Bag, Kusha Kapila and Poonam Dhillon
Director: Shashanka Ghosh
Release Date: 30 September 2022 on Netflix

Story: Movie follows a matchmaker who believes marriage is for everyone except herself and a successful divorce lawyer with a secret who cross paths and explores if opposites coexist or attract.

Film begins with Kaustubh Chougule aka Kosty (Riteish Deshmukh) giving a lecture to a couple on the brink. She is from the North and he is from the south on their divorce day. On the other hand, Nirali Vora (Tamannaah Bhatia) runs a matrimonial venture with her mom Kiran (Poonam Dhillon) and is all for cementing cracks between warring couples.

The two have been unlucky in their respective relationships and the past rubs off on how they deal with their obsessions and mental blocks. While the amiable Nirali thrives on bringing people together and saving marriages that are on the brink of collapse, the latter Kosty is an attorney who specializes in divorce and child custody cases, derives pleasure from helping couples part ways for good. No point fixing what’s broke, he insists.

Nirali has inherited the matchmaking business from her widowed and fun-loving mother who continues to live it up because she believes age is only a number. But the daughter is unable to live down a personal tragedy. Her friend Seema (Kusha Kapila) wants to help her deal with the loss and move on. Nirali struggles to put her past behind her.

The crusty Kosty is worse off. His marriage has imploded. His estranged wife Runjhun (Bidita Bag) wants a divorce right away. Kosty is very quick to jump the gun when it comes to his clients, is hesitant. Bitter and forlorn, he drinks, dances and hooks up with girls on a dating app.

Nirali and Kosty cross each other’s path when the former moves into the same workspace as the latter. Their first meeting isn’t pleasant and of course, the two end up being at loggerheads until Cupid strikes. What happens when the two work in close proximity to each other? Will sparks fly? Or tempers?

Positives
1. Excellent Performances
2. Screenplay
3. Direction

Negatives
1. Music
2. Story lacks Novelty
3. Climax
4. Direction

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in free time because trailers looks entertaining.

Mr. Kaustubh Chougule is a family lawyer who is an expert in granting divorce. Nirali Vora is a psychologist turned matchmaker who newly moved into the shared workspace where Kaustubh’s office is located. Both differ in opinions and professions, and they keep fighting with each other constantly. The rest of the story is about how they fell for each other.

Plan A Plan B swings between the vacuous to the odious in search of a sweet spot. All it manages to hit is the bottom of the barrel. The film volunteers a lot of information about the two principal characters and yet does not get us invested in their fate. But what the story could have done with is a little more depth in Kosty and Nirali’s past stories, which would make the audience feel for them. Here, you understand their complexities but don’t really become a part of their journey. There aren’t many twists and the narrative is simple. The pace is slow, but consistent with moments that will stay with you.

It is the kind of film that has nothing to say, let alone say anything new. It is generic and predictable. It will not leave you pondering over what you just saw, nor will it provoke you to think. There’s no charged atmosphere, sizzling chemistry or heated looks exchanged, to convince us that the two are falling desperately and passionately in love with each other. My view on this movie Time Pass as it is the kind of film that is cute to watch while it lasts, but you forget about it the minute the screen turns blank.
