Story: In the previous seasons, we witnessed the blossoming romance between Dimple (Prajakta Koli) and Rishi (Rohit Saraf) as they faced challenges in their relationship. Season 3 picks up after a major turning point: Rishi’s career takes off when he is selected by Nandini Nahata’s (Dipannita Sharma Atwal) Institute of Technology (NNIT) in Hyderabad, while Dimple’s dreams are dashed when she is rejected and has to return to Ambala.

Fast forward to three years and the couple is still in a long-distance relationship. There are two more couples Anmol Malhotra (Taruk Raina) and Vinny (Ahsaas Channa). Siddhartha aka Sid sir (Rannvijay Singha) and Zeenat (Vidya Malvade) are also in a happy relationship.

Their long-distance relationship faces significant strain, leading Dimple to make a pivotal decision to join Siddharth Sir’s new institute which is conveniently located next to NNIT. As they meet again, they face a new set of challenges that test their bond. She is surprised to see that Rishi and Anmol Malhotra have become buddies. Anmol and Krish Katyal (Abhinav Sharma) are still not on good terms. But Krish and Celina Matthews (Muskkaan Jaferi) are having a fling.

Meanwhile Celina gets intrigued by a student at LLIT, Rithika (Lauren Robinson) who identifies as Rith. Rishi and Dimple are not fine together as she complains that Rishi is unavailable for her despite being physically around. She is also jealous that he’s living the life that she always wanted. Meanwhile, Rishi in love compromises on the highly awaited app which will be launched by NNIT, leading to problems. What happens next forms the rest of the series.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this web-series, planned to watch this series in free time as liked the previous seasons despite flaws. The season continues to explore the evolving long-distance relationship between Dimple and Rishi as they confront professional aspirations, personal growth, and romantic challenges. After a three-year time leap, they reconnect in competing tech institutes, navigating a host of new dilemmas.

Mismatched 3 Season 3, adapted from Sandhya Menon’s When Dimple Met Rishi and retains its breezy tone and youthful themes. The core romance of Dimple and Rishi is the season’s anchor, with their chemistry remaining relatable and authentic. While the series attempts to address contemporary issues such as mental health, body image, queer identity, and the effects of virtual realities, much of it feels superficial and overly familiar. The handling of these themes lacks the depth necessary to make a significant impact, leaving viewers with a sense of déjà vu. One of the biggest strengths of the show is that its straight out of life and youngsters can see themselves in the various characters. This time, the protagonists have matured and moreover, they also face problems like long distance relationship woes, not finding time for each other, loss of a loved one, marriage pressure, etc. Moreover, the tech and VR aspects add to the fun and madness. Background score has a youthful and urban appeal which adds an emotional layer, enhancing the show’s moments of tension and intimacy. It delivers a polished visual experience. Ronnie Screwvala’s backing ensures a high production value, while cinematography beautifully captures the essence of metropolitan India. Rohit Saraf and Prajakta Koli continue to shine, providing nuanced performances that anchor the series. Supporting actors are acted well. Mismatched has carved out its niche with its blend of college romance and tech-centric storyline, serving as a refreshing take on the coming-of-age genre. This season delights in filling viewers with cheerfulness and optimism, perfectly capturing the essence of youthful exuberance and discovery. The fans of the show are going to love what they watch for sure. The last episode has a nail-biting sequence and its worth watching. The series ends on a justified note with the promise of another season.

On the downside if spoken about character development, the leads maintain their journey, but the newly introduced characters could have been given more opportunity. Certain scenes are too cliche and don’t portray romance or love much. The series has a lot of cliffhangers that might spoil one’s interest in watching. It doesn’t balance reality and romance, it’s extreme in both cases. The track of Rith adds a nice touch but his intention to break into the Betterverse is very silly, especially when the portal was about to be launched soon. While the relationship between Vidya Malavade’s character and Rannvijay Singh’s Sid Sir progresses, their arc lacks depth and conviction, primarily due to the overwhelming number of side plots that take center stage. The subplot involving Anmol and Vinny lacks substantial development, and Krish remains indecisive about his feelings. The storytelling remains clichéd, leaving it feeling like a rehash of familiar themes and arcs just with the new virtual, aka unreal world.

Overall, series offers a satisfying blend of drama, romance, and lighthearted moments, but it struggles to break new ground. It’s an enjoyable season for loyal viewers, but one that fails to deliver anything truly fresh or groundbreaking. It will appeal to teens, young adults, and even parents offering a heartwarming look at love, ambition, and the trials of young adulthood. The show maintains its unique charm, making it a must-watch for fans of the series and also the new watchers. My view on this series Recommended for franchise fans.
