Team India bowled out for just 109 runs in their 1st innings after batting first. India have been bowled out just after lunch on the first day, after winning the toss and opting to bat. They’ve been rolled over for 109 on what is really a devilish pitch. It’s not just the big turn that’s making life difficult, but also the variable bounce with the top surface exploding with almost every delivery. Australia’s spinners exploited those conditions wonderfully, led by a first Test five-for from Matthew Kuhnemann. He was the one who set the ball rolling with the wicket of Rohit Sharma. And the wickets just kept tumbling after that. Virat Kohli scored 22 runs and Shubman Gill scored 21 runs. For Australia, Matthew Kuhnemann picks 5 wickets.
Australia scored 156/4 on day 1 stumps. A day out of Australia’s wildest dreams really. After getting hammered in the first two Tests, they’ve turned up in Indore and put India through the wringer on what was a raging turner in the morning session. The bite seems to have gone off the surface as the day’s gone on, or maybe India haven’t quite been at their best with the ball either. But the visitors already are ahead by 47 with six wickets still in hand. After Matthew Kuhnemann led the show earlier on with his first Test five-for, Usman Khawaja showed the way with the bat, compiling a near-faultless fifty before perishing to the sweep shot. And while they’re still not out of sight, thanks to Ravindra Jadeja‘s relentless spell of bowling – taking all four wickets to fall – they’re very much ahead after losing the toss. It was that morning session where most of the damage was done, with the spinners capitalising on the early moisture and getting the ball to bite off the surface. That first session has been crucial right through the series, and it’s where India will have to be at their best tomorrow to chart a comeback.

AUS: 156/4 at day 1 stumps

Day 2
Australia bowled out for 197 in their 1st innings. That was a frantic half an hour or so. Australia were in cruise control after the first hour. Handscomb and Green were comfortable and barely looked trouble. All the talk about the morning moisture aiding India died down as the pair dug in and saw off 16 overs. But Ashwin struck right after the drinks break and it was a procession, Australia lost their last 6 wickets for 11 runs. Umesh was excellent at the other end and together the pair picked the last six wickets. Australia still have a commendable lead of 88 runs. Usman Khawaja scored 60 runs and Marnus Labuschagne scored 31 runs. For Team India, Ravindra Jadeja picks 4 wickets.

Team India bowled out for just 163 runs in their 2nd innings and set the target of 76 runs. It’s also stumps on Day 2. Nathan Lyon was the star with the ball for the visitors, taking 8/64 in the second innings. And while Pujara played beautifully for his fifty, Australia are firm favourites to pull one back in the series. The innings had started with India 88 runs behind, and they lost four wickets by the time they were even, with Lyon bowling beautifully. There was a brief counterattack from Shreyas Iyer, who took the attack to the spinners, racing to 26 off 27 balls. But before he could really put the Aussies under pressure, Mitchell Starc was brought back and he had him caught brilliantly at midwicket by Khawaja. Lyon then took over again, bowling tirelessly as he wheeled away for close to 24 overs out of the 61 that were bowled. And he was so consistent with his lengths from round the wicket, getting the ball to dip considerably and also making the most of the help on offer. He has done what he could to pave the way for Australia. They just need 76 with the bat tomorrow. Cheteshwar Pujara scored 59 runs and Shreyas Iyer scored 26 runs. For Australia, Nathan Lyon picks 8 wickets.

Day 3
Australia scored 78/1 and won the 3rd test by 9 wickets. The day started with Australia needing 76 runs and India 10 wickets. Ashwin gave some hope when he removed the in-form Khawaja off the second ball of the day, but that was the only joy for India. Head and Labuschagne buckled down and were ready to take their time. There was not a single aggressive shot played for the first 10 overs and then a couple of things happened, the ball was changed and at the same time there was a message from the Australian dressing room, that got the pair going especially Head and there were a flurry of boundaries which broke India’s fight. This Test started with India needing a win to qualify for the WTC final but it is Australia who seal their spot in the WTC final. Travis Head scored unbeaten 49* runs while Marnus Labuschagne scored 28* runs. For Team India, Ashwin picks the only fallen wicket.
