New Zealand scored just 99/8 runs in their 20 overs after batting first. Brilliant bowling from India to keep this to 99. Yes, batting not easy but it’s surely at least 130 pitch. Most of the New Zealand top order batters weren’t playing with straight bats. In fact, the first three wickets fell to reverse sweeps. Hardik put on the squeeze with spinners. Got in Arshdeep only for the 18th and 20th and the left-armer didn’t disappoint. Arshdeep is returning from injury so the rhythm and form is not back in full tilt, only game time will improve, and Hardik ensured he had his left-arm seamer on whenever needed. None apart from Mitch Santner timed the ball sweetly. Even Santner lost his touch in the last over. Chahal’s first ball was the highlight, when he got it to rip past Allen’s defences that sent shivers into the opponents dressing room. India took the spin to win mantra and they definitely won the first half. Discount New Zealand out yet at your own risk. Santner, Sodhi, Bracewell are quality spinners too. But it’s got to take some outrageous batting from India to slip up. Skipper Mitchell Santner scored 19* runs of 23 balls and Mark Chapman scored 14 runs of 21 balls. For Team India, Arshdeep Singh picks 2 wicket for 7 runs in his 2 overs.

Team India chase down the target and by scoring 101/4 runs in 19.5 overs and won the game by 6 wickets. The Lucknow crowd erupts in joy, Rahul Dravid stands to applaud and Hardik Pandya hugs SKY. Relief in the Indian camp. Who’d have thought that this game would go down to the wire? A lot of credit to the New Zealand bowlers for putting up a spirited fight after India restricted them to 99/8. New Zealand used five spinners and they were mostly on the money to continuously exert pressure on the Indian batters. You know that it’s a tough batting track when Suryakumar is struggling. A gun T20 player, SKY struggled to time the ball, got a couple of reprieves and was involved in a mix-up. But he stayed till the end, stitched an unbeaten 31-run stand with captain Hardik and hit his first boundary off his 31st delivery which also turned out to be the winning runs. 239 legal deliveries bowled and there wasn’t a single six hit today. Suryakumar Yadav scored 26* of 31 balls and Ishan Kishan scored 19 runs of 32 balls. For New Zealand, Michael Bracewell & Ish Sodhi pick 1 wicket each.
