Mastercard T20I Series 2023: Sri Lanka beat India in India for the first time since 2016 in this format. They have won the 2nd T20I game by 16 runs and level the series with final T20I to go. Now I will share the details of this game match in my way.

Details: India captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first in the 2nd T20I game against Sri Lanka Cricket at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. Rahul Tripathi made his debut for Team India today.

Sri Lanka scored massive 206/6 runs in their 20 overs after batting first. Shanaka, Mendis and the no-balls headline the first innings. They were 138 for 6 when Shanaka decided to go bonkers. He was caught off a no-ball and post that just upped his game. India had to tend to their own self-inflicted wounds and have been left with 207 to chase down. Lanka started off on a quick note as well as Arshdeep‘s return was a nightmare with him bowling 5 no-balls in his two over spell. Lanka do have enough but India won’t go down without a fight. Skipper Dasun Shanaka scored 56* runs of 22 balls and Kusal Mednis scored 51 runs of 32 balls. For Team India, Umran Malik picks 3 wickets for 48 runs in his 4 overs quota.

Team India unable to chase the target and scored 190/8 runs in 20 overs and lost the game by 16 runs. Lanka have eked out a win in the end. It was a game of thin margins going into the last over despite India needing 20 to win. The no-balls from India has come back to hurt them pretty badly. The 19th over from Rajitha made the difference as he executed most of his balls despite starting that over with two wides. India on the other hand conceded close to 40 runs in their last two overs. As said earlier, India lost the game mostly because of their indiscipline with the ball. A slightly better effort might have helped them. The series is locked at 1-1 now. The deadlock should be resolved in the next game. Axar Patel scored 65 of 31 balls and Suryakumar Yadav scored 51 runs of 36 balls. For Sri Lanka, Shanaka, Madhushanka & Rajitha picks 2 wickets each.
The match went down to the wire but it is Sri Lanka who won the second T20I by 16 runs.
