Team India scored massive 349/8 runs in their 50 overs after batting first. It took a masterclass from one man to singlehandedly push India to a monstrous total. There was no stopping Gill today. In fact, he’s been on a roll since debuting in ODIs and he seems to be loving this format a lot. Followed up his century two days ago against SL with an even better century today. Right from the get-go, he seemed unfazed by the two-paced nature of the pitch and was equally adept against pace/spin, putting a lot of pressure on the NZ bowlers. The other batters gave him support, notably Rohit, SKY and Hardik but nobody had the fluency that the opener had in his innings. Sample this Gill struck at close to 140 while the other batters combined couldn’t even hit at 85. It was a one-man show like no other and the BlackCaps didn’t really have much answers to him. Even the usually economical Santner couldn’t put a lid on the scoring rate. This will take some chasing, it’s not a bad pitch but certainly isn’t a belter. The visitors need someone to replicate Gill’s knock and a collective effort to chase this down. Shubman Gill scored 208 runs of 149 balls and skipper Rohit Sharma scored 34 runs of 38 balls. For New Zealand, Henry Shipley & Daryl Mitchell picks 2 wickets each.

New Zealand unable to chase the target and bowled out for 337 runs in 49.2 overs and lost the game by 12 runs. Jubilant reactions from the Indians as they see the giant screen flash OUT but quite sure they are more relieved than happy right now. This game had no business getting this close. Certainly not once NZ fell to 131/6 in the 28th over. A surrender looked inevitable, so much so that a lot of the crowd even started to leave. But what happened after that was carnage. Epic carnage. With a nothing-to-lose situation, Bracewell counterattacked, and found good support from Santner as the duo started peeling off boundary after boundary. The former was the aggressor of course, as he put the bowlers to the sword, making them sweat and tense throughout. They added 162 off just 102 balls and suddenly Rohit and co were feeling the heat. The duo took the game deep, into T20 territory and despite Santner’s dismissal, Bracewell kept going. Thankfully for India, he ran out of partners and that massive 46th over bowled by Siraj is what arguably takes the cake. He removed Santner and Shipley off successive deliveries, and that really robbed Bracewell of some invaluable support. That said, with 20 needed off 6 balls, Bracewell still believed, smashing Shardul for a six first ball but the pacer had the last laugh to seal the deal. Michael Bracewell scored 140 of 78 balls and Mitchell Santner scored 57 runs of 45 balls. For Team India, Mohammed Siraj picks 4 wickets for 46 runs in his 10 overs.
