India clean sweeps Sri Lanka in ODI Series 2023-cricketmovie.com

Mastercard ODI Series 2023: Team India complete a whitewash against Sri Lanka with biggest ever ODI win. They won the 3rd and final ODI by record 317 runs at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. Now I will share the details of this game in my own way.

3rd ODI (India Vs Sri Lanka)
Game Date: 15th January 2023
Details:
Indian Team captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first in the 3rd and final ODI game against Sri Lanka at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. Two changes in Team India and Suryakumar Yadav & Washington Sundar is playing today in the place of Hardik Pandya and Umran Malik.

Team India scored massive 390/5 in their 50 overs. What an exhibition of batting we’ve had today, first from the protege and then by the master himself! The day started with India’s openers getting off to a flier despite a tepid couple of overs to begin the game. Skipper Rohit holed out after scoring 42, and he’d feel like he missed out because the surface was tailor-made for one of those Rohit Sharma daddy hundreds. Nevertheless, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli stitched together a 131-run partnership as Sri Lanka found no joy for almost the next 20 overs. Gill played a stylish knock, getting to his 2nd ODI hundred before he was knocked over by a Kasun Rajitha delivery that stayed low. Kohli though held him own at the other end, as he smashed his 46th ODI hundred, and the second for this series. The former Indian skipper remained unbeaten on 166, doing the bulk of the scoring at the end as India plundered 116 runs off the last 10. Sri Lanka found some joy in the death overs as Shreyas Iyer, Rahul and Suryakumar‘s wickets were dismissed in close succession, but nevertheless 390 on the board is not going to be a score that can easily be chased. Virat Kohli scored 166* runs of 110 balls and Shubman Gill scored 116 runs of 97 balls. For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Kumara & Kasun Rajitha picks 2 wickets each.

Sri Lanka unable to chase the target and bowled out for just 73 runs and lost the game by record 317 runs. When you score close to 400 runs in an ODI, the game is mostly done and dusted there itself. Unless the pitch is a complete road (which this wasn’t) or maybe if England are the chasing side. The result was a foregone conclusion but what was shocking was the meek surrender from the Lankan batters. Even if the target was improbable, they could have all tried to put up a fight but that was not to be. Siraj‘s new-ball burst killed off whatever minimal hopes the visitors may have had and the procession just never stopped at all. Only three batters got to double digits and just one partnership faced 20-plus deliveries out there. Sums up the second innings, doesn’t it? India only had to use three specialist bowlers while Iyer bowled one solitary over as well. Siraj deserved a fifer but fell agonizingly close. The one dismissal that kind of resembles Sri Lanka’s mood today has to be that of Karunaratne’s. Imagine playing a forward defense back to the bowler and then getting run out for not having your foot back in the crease. It’s beyond silly. A clinical performance from India though. The centuries from Kohli and Gill set the hosts up, and there was no looking back thereafter. Nuwanidu Fernando scored 19 of 27 balls and Kasun Rajitha scored 13* runs of 19 balls. For Team India, Mohammed Siraj picks 4 wickets for 32 runs in his 10 overs quota.
