2nd ODI (India Vs Sri Lanka)
Game Date: 12th January 2023
Details:
Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka again won the toss and elected to bat first in the 2nd ODI game against Team India at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. One change in Team India and Kuldeep Yadav is playing today in the place of injured Yuzvendra Chahal.

Sri Lanka bowled out for 215 runs in 39.4 overs. Sri Lanka have been bundled out for 215 on a good batting deck after opting to bat. Avishka Fernando struck three successive fours off Siraj but the latter had the last laugh by providing the early breakthrough for the hosts. Debutant Nuwanidu Fernando took 11 balls to get off the mark but he along with Kusal Mendis scored at a brisk rate, stitched a half-century partnership and were unperturbed by pace. Rohit Sharma introduced spin only in the 17th over and both the left-arm spinners struck in their respective first over as Mendis and DDS perished playing for spin when there was none. The set Nuwanidu was run out and Sri Lanka imploded as they slipped from 102/1 to 126/6, with Kuldeep starring with three wickets. Sri Lanka’s lower order showed some fight with three 25+ stands. Were the Indian bowlers perhaps complacent against the tail? The pacers removed the last four wickets to skittle out SL inside 40 overs. Nuwanidu Fernando scored 50 runs of 63 balls and Kusal Mendis scored 34 runs of 34 balls. For Team India, Kuldeep Yadav & Mohammed Siraj picks 3 wickets each.

Team India chase down the target successfully by scoring 219/6 in 43.2 overs and won the game by 4 wickets. India was expected to chase this modest target comfortably, but they’ve been made to toil hard. Sri Lanka strengthened their bowling, and it was a spirited performance from their bowlers, but they didn’t have enough runs on the board. Indian openers came out with an aggressive intent and were mostly eyeing boundaries however both of them were dismissed within a span of four deliveries and India were reduced to 41 for 2 in the sixth over. Virat Kohli got off the mark with an authoritative pull shot but was nipped out by Kumara off the very next delivery. Although the scoring rate was above 6 RPO, India lost their top three inside the first powerplay. Rajitha, in his second spell, trapped Shreyas Iyer lbw. At 86/4, the game was delicately poised. That’s when KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya joined hands and opted for a conservative approach. Took no undue risks, batted sensibly, punished anything loose and steadied the ship with a half-century stand. Karunaratne broke the 75-run partnership with India still needing 55 runs to win. Axar batted positively and perished looking to play a big shot. Rahul, meanwhile, remained calm till the end and took his team over the line. Kl Rahul scored 64* of 103 balls and Hardik Pandya scored 36 runs of 53 balls. For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Kumara & Chamika Karunaratne picks 2 wickets each.
