Sri Lanka scored 262/9 runs in their 50 overs after batting first. That’s a pretty competitive total posted by Sri Lanka and the last couple of overs will make them feel a lot better going into the break. Today it was a classic case of none of their batsmen being able to capitalize on their starts. Most of them got off to decent starts, but they couldn’t carry on after getting into their 20’s and 30’s. The top four batsmen were dismissed by the spinners and so was captain Shanaka. Karunaratne and Chameera entertained towards the end with their cameos and that has helped the hosts post a total that looked unlikely at a point. For India, the combination of KulCha claimed four wickets, but Krunal Pandya was the most economical bowler as he conceded only 26 runs in 10 overs. The seamers had a slightly off day, but the Indian batters should back themselves to chase this down. Plenty of aggression in that batting line-up. Let’s see whether they can pull this off. Chamika Karunaratne scored 43* of 35 balls and skipper Dasun Shanaka scored 39 of 50 balls. For India Chahar, Kuldeep and Chahal pick 2 wickets each.

Team India chased down the target successfully by scoring 263/3 runs in 36.4 overs and won the game by 7 wickets. Quite a pasting for Sri Lanka’s bowlers, delivered by India’s next gen stars. Sure, Dhawan might have top-scored but the highlight was easily the way Shaw and Kishan batted. Completely different aspects to savour from both of them. For every exquisite shot Shaw had, Kishan had a bludgeon. Just no inhibitions at all, epitomized by Kishan’s first ball down the track for six on debut. The overall dominance of the run chase stole the show from the bowlers earlier, who had done an excellent job as well notwithstanding the late assault. Kuldeep needed this, as did Chahal. Wonderful to see both of them combining well again. Just a happy place to be, that Indian camp today. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan scored 86* of 95 balls and Ishan Kishan scored 59 of 42 balls. For Sri Lanka Dhananjaya de Silva pick 2 wickets for 49 runs for 5 overs.
