Sri Lanka scored 275/9 runs in their 50 overs after batting first. If momentum is a real thing, Sri Lanka have clearly taken lots of it back inside. India’s death bowling was almost a one trick story with slower ball outside off after slower ball outside off. But that wasn’t nailed accurately either. Asalanka led the recovery, and Karunaratne took it up a notch. In fact Sri Lanka started off really well in the first powerplay, with Bhanuka and Fernando looking really good. And then went decently in the middle overs too with Dhananjaya settling in. But it was pretty much the same old story that unfolded in between all of that. Wickets against the run of play, poor shots, throwing away starts, and the Indian spinners doing a good holding job. Chahal was the pick, bowling the tough overs in the powerplay, drying out runs later, and providing breakthroughs. Okay, Colombo hasn’t been the most chase friendly venue, and this pitch is pretty slow too so it will tough chase for sure. Charith Asalanka scored 65 of 68 balls and skipper Avishka Fernando scored 50 of 71 balls. For India Chahal and Bhuvi pick 3 wickets each.

Team India chased down the target successfully by scoring 277/7 runs in 49.1 overs and won the game by 3 wickets. There are certain habits in life that die hard, and reversing a losing streak is apparently the hardest. Ten ODIs at home, over nine years, so much so that they’ve now conceded an 84-run stand for the eighth wicket to keep that streak alive. Oh, but it’s India’s time to celebrate. Shaw leaps onto Chahar. And then moment he lets go of him, Suryakumar runs in and jumps on him. From battling injury after injury, to being reduced to a four-over bowler, to coming in to bat with just formalities remaining for the Lankans. Well, the Deepak Chahar story adds another chapter. And it’s a chapter in determination. He stuck it out, fought it out, first with Krunal and then when Bhuvi joined him, the fight became pretty. It became calculated. They played out Hasaranga. And around that kept milking the seamers. Deepak Chahar scored 69* of 82 balls and Suryakumar Yadav scored 53 of 44 balls. For Sri Lanka Wanindu Hasaranga pick 3 wickets for 37 runs in his 10 overs quota.
India win and gain an unassailable 2-0 series lead 💪
