Cast: Anushka Sen, Revathi Pillai, Kush Jotwani, Vishakha Pandey, Elisha Mayor, Tanvi Azmi and Shishir Sharma
Director: Debbie Rao
Release Date: 25th April 2024 on Jio Cinema
Duration: 7 Episodes/ 40 Minutes

Story: Series is adapted from the book ‘Asmara’s Summer’ by Andaleeb Wajid which revolves around awesome threesome, comprising of Asmara (Anushka Sen) and her two friends Naina (Revathi Pillai) and Tania (Elisha Mayor). The group of super-rich brats has nothing much to worry about. Living in the most extravagant and flashy part of Bengaluru, the trio shops, lives and shares every tiny detail of their lives apart from some very personal details.

Asmara plans of going to Canada over the summer vacations are cut short when she misbehaves with her grandmother (Tanvi Azmi) in the front of her friends due to which her mother Arshiya (Shruti Seth) sent her to in the middle-class locality of Tibbri Road.

Tibbri Road is essentially an impoverished Muslim neighborhood. From living a luxurious life to settling in a middle-class life, the transition is a challenge for her and in order to maintain her image, Asmara lies to her best friends and tells them that she has in fact made it to Canada. The three get on a video call every day and Asmara puts up a sheet with skyscrapers printed on it in the background to hide the dullness of her room.

She strikes up a feeble friendship with a neighborhood girl Rukhsana (Vishakha Pandey) and her brother Farzaan (Kush Jotwani). What happens next and whether she will find herself in the by lanes of Tibbri Road forms the crux of the story.

Positives
1. Performances
2. Direction
3. Screenplay
4. Story

Negatives
1. Length
2. Middle episodes
3. Too many subplots
4. Climax

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this web-series, planned to watch this series in my free time as its look good in parts and always liked old

Asmara’s summer takes a turn when she’s sent to her grandparents’ neighborhood as punishment. To save face, she pretends to be in Canada to her friends. Amid the traditional setting, she finds genuine friendships, life lessons, and a hint of romance. Yet, her hidden truth could ruin everything, can she find the courage to be herself?

Dil Dosti Dilemma is coming-of-age show is not just about friendship or the typical Gen-Z dramas that we have seen multiple times before, but there is a sense of uniqueness to the show, thanks to the credible plot. In all seven episodes, there was a wholesome vibe that exuded through every frame and every dialogue. And that is what makes you stick. Don’t expect any twists or turns, it’s a soft and fascinating female-led drama with a hidden lesson in every episode. What I loved the most about this show is how well the writers have blended the older generations with the tech-savvy world of Gen Zs, as they showed their different perspectives the good and bad things, and how by accepting and learning each other’s qualities, they can create a wonderful and happy world together. It is entertaining to watch in the moment, but you forget about it the minute you switch off your device. Anushka Sen is the heart and soul of this series. She’s put in a cracking performance, with just the right degree of brash and bratty to her portrayal.

On the flipside, what doesn’t go well in the show is the length and unnecessary additions that make the show superfluous, especially in the first two and last episodes. The character and story are sketched and presented well, but as I mentioned before, some extra additions make the plot lengthy and can make you impatient. Other than the primary premise, the subplots in the story are quite tedious to watch. Naina’s infatuation with the local hunk, Tanya’s snooping around in her parents’ lives, and other tracks are quite boring not to say, cringey. The most disappointing part of the show was the climax, it could have been a lot better, as compared to the first six episodes. While the makers ended the show on a cliffhanger, the way they framed the climax was disappointing.

Overall, series is a simple yet entertaining story of a girl trying to adjust to her new life, as she discovers her true self and learns life lessons along the way. The seven-episode story may not seem that engrossing in the beginning but try to stick, and you will end up binge-watching it. It offers a charming exploration of teenage life, with enough heart and humor to resonate with audiences of all ages. My view on this series Recommended.
