Stats
– 458 by Bangladesh in the first innings is the second highest total for them in an innings without an individual three-figure score. Incidentally, their highest total (without a three-figure score) of 488 made against Zimbabwe in Chattogram in 2004-05 was Bangladesh’s maiden Test win.
– 176.2 overs batted by Bangladesh is the second most by them in a Test innings following 196 overs in Galle in 2012-13, a pitch that was subsequently rated poor by ICC. The only other time they survived 150+ overs in an innings outside the sub-continent was also in New Zealand 152 overs in Wellington in 2016-17.
– 130 in the first innings lead of 130 by Bangladesh is the second highest by them in an away Test. The only higher lead they gained was 192 runs against Zimbabwe in Harare earlier in the year. Overall, this is the 13th instance of them taking a 100+ first innings lead with a 9-3 win-loss record with one draw.

New Zealand all out for 169 runs in their 2nd innings and set the target of 40 runs for Bangladesh to win their first even Test. Will Young scored 69 runs and Ross Taylor scored 40 runs. For Bangladesh Ebadot Hossain pick 6 wickets.

Stats
– 6/46 by Ebadat Hossain is the second best innings figures for a Bangladesh fast bowler in Tests behind Shahadat Hossain‘s 6/27 against South Africa in Dhaka in 2007-08. It also happens to be the second five-wicket haul at the Bay Oval bettering Neil Wagner’s 5/44 against England two years ago.
– This was only the second instance of Bangladesh winning a Test after opting to fielding first. Of the 21 previous instances when they opted to field, they ended up on the losing side in as many as 19 times with one stalemate. While the only win came when they beat West Indies by four wickets in St George’s in 2009. Since the start of 2016, New Zealand happens to be the only country with teams fielding first winning more Tests (15) than teams batting first (six).
– The run of 17 successive unbeaten Tests for New Zealand in New Zealand has ended with Bangladesh’s win in Mount Maunganui. Since losing the second Test of the 2016-17 home series against South Africa in Wellington, New Zealand won 13 and drew four of their 17 subsequent home Tests across nine series is the New Zealand’s longest such sequence in home Tests in the format.
– 32 Defeats for Bangladesh in as many matches against New Zealand in New Zealand across all formats before this win. They had previously faced off in nine Tests, 16 ODIs and seven T20Is across 15 rubbers, all of which ended in the home team’s victory. Bangladesh’s win percentage of 3.03% against New Zealand in New Zealand across formats is the lowest for a team against an opponent in the opposition’s home turf.
– 1-22 is Bangladesh’s win-loss record in Tests in SENA countries. Before this win, they had lost each of their first 22 Tests in these four countries, 15 of them by an innings margin. However, Bangladesh last toured Australia in 2003 and England in 2010.
– This is the sixth instance of Bangladesh winning an away Test, having won two against a depleted West Indies side in the Caribbean (2009), two in Zimbabwe (2013 & 2021) and one in Sri Lanka (2017). This is Bangladesh’s first win in 16 attempts against New Zealand, with 12 defeats and three draws in their 15 previous encounters.
