Team India scored 175/6 in their 20 overs after batting first. On a surface that has made shot-making feel like a chore for most Indian batters, Hardik Pandya has carved out an innings of rare brilliance. The pitch was sticky, the timing elusive, and despite encouraging starts, Tilak and Axar couldn’t convert them into formidable scores. Ngidi’s three wickets and Jansen’s economical spell tightened South Africa’s grip as they kept striking at just the right moments. Then came Hardik – batting on a completely different surface, not affected by the conditions, shifting the momentum with authority and flair. His effort has ensured India remain competitive. The onus now shifts to the bowlers. Can they exploit the conditions and trouble the Proteas. Hardik Pandya scored 59* runs of 28 balls and Tilak Varma scored 26 runs of 32 balls. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi picked 3 wickets for 32 runs in his 4 overs quota.

South Africa failed to chase the target and bowled out for just 74 runs in 12.3 overs and lost the game by 101 runs. India have kicked off the 5-match T20I series in emphatic fashion. Early jitters threatened to derail India’s innings, until Hardik Pandya stepped in and rewrote the script with a superb knock on a stubborn pitch. With others fighting for timing, his innings lifted India beyond what looked like a modest score. And once the bowlers came on, the game flipped completely. South Africa’s top-order crumbled, losing de Kock, Stubbs, Markram and Miller even before the scoreboard could crawl to 50. Brevis offered lone resistance, holding one end despite wickets tumbling around him, but with the required rate climbing steeply, South Africa stayed behind the chase throughout and were eventually bowled out for 74. Both sets of bowlers exploited the conditions well, striking at regular intervals, but it was Hardik Pandya’s innings that truly shaped the outcome. Dewald Brevis scored 22 of 14 balls and Tristan Stubbs scored 14 runs of 9 balls. For Team India, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel picked 2 wickets each.
