New Zealand bowled out for 259 runs in their 1st innings. Washington leads the team off the field after a sensational performance here in Pune. His inclusion was a talking point earlier in the day, and he has delivered the goods in some style. Best first-class figures for him of 7/59 as he put on an exhibition of drift and dip on a pitch that did take a decent amount of turn as well. New Zealand was looking good at one stage with fifties from Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. They were close to 200/3 when Washington was brought on for a little spell before tea. And he turned the game on its head, starting with an absolute ripper to castle Ravindra. Devon Conway scored 76 runs and Rachin Ravindra scored 65 runs. For Team India, Washington Sundar picked 7 wickets.

Team India scored 16/1 on Day 1 stumps. They are still trailing by 243 runs with 9 wickets in hand. Good start with the ball from New Zealand with Southee getting rid of the Indian captain for a duck, and then the two left-arm spinners finding help from the pitch to create some jeopardy.

Day 2
Team India bowled out for just 156 runs in their 1st innings. A rare occasion where the hunter becomes the hunted. This Indian team have done this exact thing to plenty of visiting teams, but today they have been tormented by the spin of Mitchell Santner and have folded in pretty much a session and a half here in Pune. Take a bow, New Zealand! To conquer the mind and then out bowl India in the sub-continent is some achievement, they stand at the cusp of potential history now. India lost skipper Rohit Sharma last evening. Today started with Gill and Jaiswal batting smartly, before the former was trapped LBW. Then Kohli was bowled to a dipping full toss and then started a procession of sorts. India lost six wickets in the opening session. Post Lunch, Jadeja counter with some big shots down the ground but his dismissal opened the floodgates once again. A superb bowling display by Mitchell Santner, who troubled the batters with his trajectory and pace variations, all while maintaining metronomically consistency with his line and length. Glenn Phillips chipped in with a couple of wickets as well, as the Indians fell victim to some poor shots and a crumbling pitch. They have surrendered a big lead here in the first innings. Ravindra Jadeja scored 38 runs and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 30 runs. For New Zealand, Mitchell Santner picked 7 wickets.

New Zealand scored 198/5 runs in their 2nd innings on Day 2 stumps. They have led of 301 runs with 5 wickets in hand. They are favorites now to seal the series in Pune itself. What a day they’ve had. Led by a sensational spell from Mitchell Santner, they bundled India out for 156 and secured a big first innings lead of 100-plus. Their batters then came out playing positively and have managed to stretch that lead over 300 which looks massive despite the pitch slowing down a touch. And they’re not done yet either. Washington Sundar, again, was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts, picking up four of the five wickets to fall so far. He has had a brilliant Test match. The same, however, can’t be said of his teammates. The Indian batters found Santner too hard to negotiate as he varied his pace, trajectory and angles beautifully. There was enough help in the pitch and Santner was on top of his game after a disappointing tour of Sri Lanka recently. As for the Indian bowling, it has been an underwhelming performance from the two lead spinners. Skipper Tom Latham scored 86 runs and Tom Blundell is batting on 30* runs. For Team India, Washington Sundar picked 4 wickets.

Day 3
New Zealand bowled out for 255 runs in their 2nd innings and set the target of huge target of 359 runs to Team India. So, it’s taken just around an hour for India to take the last five wickets this morning. Surprisingly they didn’t start with Washington Sundar, who has been the pick of their bowlers in the whole Test. But Jadeja stepped up and bowled pretty well, finding large amounts of turn. Not only did he pick up his first wicket of the Test, but he also picked up three in quick time. But the big challenge will start now with the bat as they face a massive target. Tom Latham scored 86 runs and Glenn Phillips scored 48* runs. For Team India, Washington Sundar picked 4 wickets.

Team India bowled out for 245 runs in their 2nd innings and lost the game by 113 runs. History made in Pune as New Zealand win a Test series in India for the first time ever. It’s one of the biggest wins of the century against a team that had not lost at home since 2012. Not just that, India had won 18 consecutive series before this one, and were heavy favourites to win all the matches in their pursuit of a finals spot in the WTC. New Zealand, on the other hand, lost 0-2 in Sri Lanka very recently. They had a new captain in Tom Latham, and a relatively inexperienced lineup in the absence of Kane Williamson, with only Latham and Southee having over 30 Test caps. But against all odds, and against a champion team, they have pulled off something quite sensational, wrapping up the series with a match to spare. No wonder they are overjoyed as they get together in celebration. Indian players walk out for handshakes. This has been just incredible. Mitchell Santner, take a bow! The control with which he bowled on a dry and turning pitch here in Pune was delightful to watch. There was enough help in the pitch, and he used it to full effect with excellent variations in pace and trajectory without leaving that good length spot. He’s such a good bowler in limited-overs formats, but his Test career has never really taken off. Had never even picked up a five-for before, and now he has two in a single game with a performance for the ages. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 77 runs and Ravindra Jadeja scored 42 runs. For New Zealand, Mitchell Santner picked 6 wickets.
A tough loss for #TeamIndia in Pune.
