2nd T20I (South Africa Vs West Indies)
Game Date: 26th March 2023
Details:
South Africa captain Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to field first in the 2nd T20I game against West Indies at SuperSport Park, Centurion. Both teams made two changes for this game.

West Indies scored massive 258/5 runs in their 20 overs after batting first. What a tremendous power hitting this has been from WI in Centurion. This is West Indies’ highest T20I total. 258 is also the highest T20I total at the SuperSport Park. Parnell removed King in the first over but it was no looking back for the visitors after that. Charles came in and took the attack to the opposition. Mayers also joined the party and piled the pressure on the SA bowlers. A strong powerplay meant that WI had a solid foundation. Charles took it up a notch and took the bowlers to the cleaners, not sparing anyone. They both crossed their fifties in quick time. Mayers did depart soon after scoring his fifty and Pooran also fell in quick succession, owing to good short bowling from Jansen. However, Charles was unstoppable today. He scored a ton only in 39 balls, which happens to be the fastest T20I ton for WI. He hit 10 fours and 11 maximums in his belligerent knock. He fell against the run of play but he had done the damage by then. Cameos from Shepherd and Powell lower down the order propelled WI past 250. It is going to be an uphill task for the hosts but the boundaries are short and the pitch is a belter. Johnson Charles scored 118 runs of 46 balls and Kyle Mayers scored 51 runs of 27 balls. For South Africa, Marco Jansen picks 3 wickets for 52 runs in his 4 overs.

South Africa chase down the target and by scoring 259/4 runs in 18.5 overs and won the game by 6 wickets. What an outstanding batting performance from SA! This is the highest successful run-chase in T20Is and SA actually have coasted to the finish line with 7 balls to spare. Just shows how belligerent the home side has been in the run-chase. More than 500 runs were scored in this game and it was an absolute run-fest, a treat for the crowd it turned out to be! Chasing 259 was a tough ask but it wasn’t improbable with a belter of a surface and short boundaries on offer. de Kock and Hendricks got their side off to a flier. They put up 102 in the powerplay, which happened to be the highest powerplay score ever in T20I cricket. The stage was set and they continued to take the WI bowlers to the cleaners. de Kock went on to score a ton only in 43 balls but fell just after that. The damage was done by then as both of them had put up 152 for the first wicket only in 65 balls. SA did lose a few wickets after that in quick time but Markram was cool as a cucumber. Klaasen also joined the party and along with his skipper, took the Proteas to a memorable and historic victory. Quinton de Kock scored 100 of 44 balls and Reeza Hendricks scored 68 runs of 28 balls. For West Indies,Jason Holder, Odean Smith, Raymon Reifer and Powell picks 2 wicket each.
