Shoorveer Review: Brave attempt by makers to tell the story of armed forced story in noble way but it could have easily been a show about the Indian air force

Just watched Shoorveer web series on Disney Plus Hotstar. So, let’s analyze the cast, story, release date, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this web series.

Story: Show begins on thrilling sequence of a maverick fighter pilot and navigator Viraj Sehgal (Armaan Ralhan) using his prowess to prevent a jet plane collision and save his colleague’s life in the heart of Pune. Soon, it shifts to a terrorist attack on a resort, which gets everyone from the PM to the intelligence agencies in action.
During a meeting with the PM, NSA’s Milind Phanse (Makarand Deshpande) proposes Project Hawks to plug in the gaps in intel and coordination between the Army, Navy and Air Force. Phanse approaches an almost-forgotten Group Captain Ranjan Malik (Manish Chaudhari) to build an adrenaline-packed team that is meant to infiltrate enemy territory with complete force and achieve their mission. This team will be away from red tapism and delays and have a single chain of command.
It would mean each soldier would have to learn another’s terrain, which may be alien to their previous training but challenging them to excel as a soldier to tackle any elemental terrain. Malik and his associate Bhatti Saab (Kuldeep Sareen) selected the team which includes Flight Lt Avantika Rao (Regina Cassandra), Squadron Leader Salim Kamali (Aadil Khan), Army officer Shome Banerji (Abhishek Saha), Viraj and others.
We also get to see the backstories of the three fighter pilots, Viraj, Avantika and Aslam. Both Viraj and Avantika are dealing with their painful pasts. While Viraj and his mother were abandoned by his father when he was nine, Avantika lost her husband in a fighter plane crash. Aslam is a single dad and is a sorted individual and always ready to take on challenges.
Thus begins the mission to prevent an imminent attack by Pakistan’s General Riyaz (Arif Zakaria) that’s been brewing for years. The show follows Hawks as they train to be a step ahead of the enemy. Alongside, they also overcome their fears and personal demons, while standing by each other.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I have watched the trailer of this series planned to watch on premiere day because it is based on armed forces and new step for Indian streaming platforms.
Shoorveer features the brave story of the strongest soldiers from the Air Force, Navy, and Army coming together to protect the country from a looming threat. Together they form a special task force called ‘Hawks’, the first of a kind team that depicts such excellent officers from all three fields of the armed forces. The show focuses on covert and stealthy operations, intense military training, air combat, and intelligence subterfuge the soldiers have to go through. Will the Hawks be able to save the country from the impending danger?
To begin with, it has the right ingredients for a good thriller but might fail to attract viewers who have watched so many better and more engaging espionage thrillers. In parts, the series is gripping, where you see the Hawks fighting as a unit and protecting the nation, while in other places, it falls flat. It delivers slick action and high production values in an Indian show, something we haven’t been used to. It could have easily been a show about the Indian air force. But in a quest to be different, the makers decided to also include the army and the navy and make the show about a special task force called ‘Hawks’, which ultimately turns out to be a terrible treatment doled out to the Indian navy. Any show on the Indian armed forces needs a lot of research which doesn’t eventually show up in this series. It surely is a mood spoiler. Hawks includes all the three forces, but it was the air force that was given maximum screen time in Series. This is the first time that an Indian series has featured fighter planes. Fans who love watching these flying beasts on screen will love it. But I just wish that hadn’t happened at the expense of the plot and writing.
The series is a decent attempt at telling millennials that there is more to any armed forces personnel, who are also human and have inner battles any of us outside the armed forces have as well. While establishing that family is important when their training strictly shows country comes first, it tells us that every soldier is a human being running wild with feelings like any of us outside the armed forces. While the adrenaline pumping is nothing compared to other armed forced shows, but it still counts as a recommended watch to view the show for portraying a truthful narrative of character. My View on this web-series Recommended for those who are passionate about action, machines and flying will absolutely love the series which is both thrilling and delightful thanks to the way it has been shot.
