Just watched Cubicles Season 2 web series on Sony LIV. So let’s analyze the cast, release date, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this web series.
Cast: Abhishek Chauhan, Nidhi Bisht, Ayushi Gupta, Badri Chavan, Niketan Sharma, Shivankit Singh Parihar, Khushbu Baid
Director: Manoj Pillai
Release Date: 7th January 2021 (Sony LIV)
Duration: 5 Episodes/ 30 Minutes
Story: Cubicles S2 has taken a year’s leap. The series begins with the Monday office being cancelled and Piyush Prajapati (Abhishek Chauhan) celebrating the occasion with his friends over booze and some great music. However, it was all in his dreams. Ah! How we all dread Monday mornings and wish for it to get cancelled. Alas! Reality strikes and Piyush wakes up getting late for work. Piyush’s old roommate Kalpesh (Arnav Bhasin) is gone and now his co-worker Gautam (Badri Chavan) is his new flatmate.
This season sees another ambitious entrance to their team in the form of new joiner Sunaina (Ayushi Gupta). Meanwhile, Megha (Nidhi Bisht) continues to be the perfect mentor and confidante to Piyush whenever the need arises. Piyush another friend and colleague Shetty (Niketan Sharma) is now happily married and applying for the paternity leaves.
One day while working for their client Jefferson code breaks and didn’t execute and then Sunaina helps him and get appreciated by everyone and Piyush was really frustrated and in the mid night he wrote resignation letter while drinking. Next day he realizes his mistakes but become happy when he got to know his boss is out of office. Next day it was appraisal day and Piyush get highest appraisal as Shetty fights with HR.
Piyush then take his admin Angad (Shivankit Singh Parihar) to his house for party and ask to delete the email from the server and Angad did that. After few days Piyush promoted to project lead and a new cabin was given to him. At the same time he was trying to new job as well. What happen next is all about the series.
Piyush rightly says that an employee and an organization have three kinds of relationships. Hookup – when an employee puts down the papers within a month. Delayed hookup – when matters drag out for 4-6 months. But when the relationship lasts longer, it is like a marriage. And, now Piyush is tempted to go for an extramarital affair. Not happy with the increment, he looks to switch from Synotech to a bigger software company. But, he is in a dilemma, whether to choose between a place he is comfortable working at and has made friends or a higher-paying job offer with cutthroat competition.
Positives
1. Excellent Performances
2. Climax
3. Story
4. Direction
Negatives
1. Screenplay
2. Multiple Sub-plots
3. Dragged and stretched
Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I have watched the trailer of this series planned to watch on release day because loved the first season and always a big fan of TVF series.
Set in Pune, TVF’s Cubicles S2 tries to tell you that, even though every cubicle seems to be identical, with employees performing a similar type of job, every one of them is an individual with different aspirations and backgrounds. It aptly captures the mundane 9-to-5 life of corporate employees. TVF has a knack for realistic storytelling and they’ve done the same with this series once again. The happiness experienced by the employees on getting a new role based in Goa or the protagonist weighing the pros and cons of leaving or not leaving his current organization, these moments have been experienced or are still being experienced with millions of corporate employees in the country.
The subtle hint of patriarchy wherein Megha instead of her husband has to bring and supervise her 7-year-old son also brings in the notion that it’s still the woman who’s expected to bring in the work-parenting balance in a marriage. A senior employee who has been ridiculed in the workplace for a long time delivers a hard-hitting speech on his last day which will tug at your heartstrings. Cubicles Season 2 is binge-worthy with its simplistic storytelling. You can watch Season 2 even if you haven’t watched Season 1. But, my suggestion is to watch both the seasons to enjoy the series as a whole. The series is relatable AF, which is the major USP of the show. Watch it if you are missing your 9-to-5 work-from-office environment and want to travel back in time. Watch Cubicles Season 2 to experience a sense of realism and relatability especially when it comes to the corporate workspace. This TVF series will inevitably make you 9 to 5 grinders super nostalgic. My View on this web-series Highly Recommended.
