Mumbai Indians scored 235/9 in their 20 overs which is highest for MI in the IPL. But they need to bowled out on 64 runs in order to qualify for the play-offs. Although their qualification looks highly unlikely, the entertainment that was on offer isn’t to be forgotten. Sid Kaul went at 14 an over and no bowler was spared amidst the plethora of range hitting from MI. Ishan Kishan scored 84 of 32 balls and Suryakumar Yadav scored 82 of 40 balls. Sunrisers Hyderabad unable to chase the target and scored 193/8 in their 20 overs but lost the game by 42 runs. Mumbai’s playoffs hopes would have ended even before the first ball itself but it didn’t, courtesy Rohit winning the toss. It would have ended in the first innings itself had they been restricted to a score under 170 but it didn’t, courtesy blinders from Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav. Mumbai needed to restrict the Sunrisers to 65 or below to pip the Knight Riders on NRR. Despite the odds, MI fans would have been slightly optimistic and KKR fans slightly nervous. With everyone’s focus on the NRR, we all forgot that even SRH were playing. Yes, they are the wooden spoon winners this season, but their openers got off to a brisk start and knocked out the defending champions inside the powerplay. Skipper Manish Pandey scored 69* of 41 balls and Jason Roy scored 34 of 21 balls. For MI Bumrah, Neesham and Coulter-Nile picks 2 wickets each.
