1232 KMS Review: Documentary that every Indian should watch to know the journey of migrant workers during lockdown
Sons Of The Soil Web Series Review: 4.5 stars

Just watched 1232 KMS documentary film on Disney Plus Hotstar VIP. So let’s analyze the cast, release date, story and at last my personal view on this documentary film.

Cast: 7 Migrant Workers
Director: Vinod Kapri
Release Date: 24th March 2021 (On Disney Plus Hotstar VIP)

Story: The series is created by Vinod Kapri and is about the Migrants and their struggles during the lockdown, the story primarily focuses on the migrants from Bihar and it would show how they travel all long 1232 Kms from Delhi to Bihar during the lockdown.

It’s been a year since the lockdown in India. While it left the entire population gob smacked, it affected the underprivileged more than anyone else. India witnessed an exodus of migrant workers that were out of jobs and forced to leave the cities for their hometowns without proper transport arrangement.

The documentary essays the journey of seven migrant workers who decided to return to their village in Sahasara in Bihar from Loni, Ghaziabad. The trailer shows us snippets of their journey from the lack of resources in their Delhi abode to them donning on the bicycles ready to make the long journey. One of the men states, “some days we get food, and the rest of the days or vessels are empty.”

However, despite the difficulties, their determination and resilience get them moving. On their remarkable journey, they receive touching acts of kindness, with generous Dhaba owners arranging meals and friendly truck supporting convenience. They faced umpteen challenges, swam across the Ganga, and even collapsed with exhaustion but did not let anything stop them. The seven men also received support from fellow countrymen as they cycled day in and day out until finally arriving home.

The film is produced by Guneet Monga and Smriti Mundhra, along with Hemanti Sarkar as the editor. Lyricist Gulzar teamed up with Vishal Bhardwaj to produce soulful music sung by Rekha Bhardwaj and Sukhwinder Singh.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer of this documentary film it touched me a lot and planned to watch on first day as wanted to see the journey of our migrant workers during lockdown because I personally spent lockdown at my home.

Six weeks after the largest nationwide lockdown in India on 21 March 2020, seven migrant workers decided to return to their village in Saharsa, Bihar and 1232 kilometres away from their location in Ghaziabad. With everything shut down in the city, these men set off bicycles with nothing but the hope of reuniting with their families.

Thank you Hotstar and Vinod Kapri for making this documentary film. Without any doubt it is must watch film that every Indian should watch once they will have time. Appreciate the fact that India is adapting to new formats and likes of content, and OTT platforms are backing the same. (Highly Recommended)
