Director: Himank Gaur
Release Date: 27th September 2024 on Hotstar

Story: The season opens with Vasya (Bhuvan Bam) getting a predictive news flash about his death. After his friend Peter (Prathmesh Parab) suggested to do some good work, he throws bundles of cash into a massive crowd but get shot. He dies hoping that his loved ones will start afresh.

Yusuf Akhtar (Jaaved Jafferi) is a corrupt construction baron who funds government’s election campaigns and occasionally incites riots in religious rallies. He arrived at Vasya funeral and confronted his family. He takes revenge by usurping the house of Vasya and the bakery of his aide Mehboob (Deven Bhojani). Vasya’s father Ashok Gawde (Vijay Nikam) and mother Alpana Gawade (Atisha Naik) move in with Peter and his wife Julie (Tamanna Sharma).

A year goes by, and Vasya is nowhere to be found. It is then revealed that Vasya had faked his death because he wanted his parents and friends to be safe from Yusuf, who wants Vasya to compensate him for his betting losses in the previous season. Meanwhile, Yusuf also learns about it, and he threatens Vasya to pay Rs. 500 crores to him in a week to compensate for the losses and his loss of reputation. Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this web-series, planned to watch this series on premiere day as loved the trailer and liked 1st part of the season in parts. Vasya’s destiny and his vardaan will be challenged by the powerful Yusuf Akhtar leading to risking his life yet again along with his loved ones.

Taaza Khabar Season 2 story is decent and could have made for an interesting watch. Dialogues are hilarious and contribute to enhancing the humor quotient of the show. The series incorporates all the elements you would find in a typical Hindi movie, spread across six episodes, each about 35 minutes long. The story progresses at a decent pace, though the occasional love story subplot feels unnecessary and could have been trimmed. The theme song, played during the opening credits, is very catchy and has a cinematic feel. The entire cast of this series including the supporter characters, are at the top of their game. There are some interesting, unexpected moments as well in the show. Himank Gaur’s direction is decent, but the series could have been tighter. The first season had a shock value that is somewhat missing here. While the actors are excellent, they could have been utilized more effectively to elevate the show further.

This season, the show portrays poverty through a melodramatic lens. The show’s sentimental moments work best when they are devoid of melodrama and overly sentimental background music. Despite Javed Jafferi’s best efforts, for some reason, Yusuf doesn’t really convince you as a menacing antagonist. The constant flashbacks and back-and-forth in terms of timeline often play spoilsport. The show suffers as it’s too depressing and tragic this time. The earlier season worked as it was full of comic moments, and that appealed to the audience. This factor is lacking here. The humor is there but not in sufficient doses.

Overall, the series is worth watching, though the first season was slightly better due to its fresh concept. It suffers due to a weak script and lack of happy and exhilarating moments. My view on this series Recommended if you liked 1st season.
