Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this web-series, planned to watch this series in premiere day as loved the trailer and its 2 seasons are one of the best of Sony LIV.
The series follows an R&AW agent and his team who strike back on Pakistan post the deadly Pulwama attacks. The agents endeavor to bring back a captured pilot amid hybrid warfare and Pakistan’s lies in global media while exposing the conniving neighboring country.
Ranneeti perfectly encapsulates this thought as it delves into the intricacies of the airstrike on Pakistan’s Balakot as an answer to the dreaded Pulwama attack. This is a layered watch where the intelligent writing keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the treatment ensures you stay intrigued throughout. Director Santosh Singh skilfully combines an actioner, political drama, and spy thriller, doing justice to each aspect. The aerial action is as thrilling as seeing Indian agents outplay Pakistani terrorists or seeing the new form of hybrid war where international news and social media can make or break a nation. And each track is masterfully created to complement the other as well as the overall narrative. The detailed narration of how, why and where the events take place is commendable. Even the background score evokes the emotions that one must rightly feel while watching a story of martyrs and the lives of those on field. It also leaves viewers with a thought on what to consider to true as social media is a game of perception. It is fast paced and there are very rare moments when you wish to go off screen. All the actors bring nuanced performances on screen.
On the flipside, series does have a few predictable and far-fetched moments, especially regarding one of its pivotal characters. While the series is engaging, it takes several episodes to build up the narrative, which may test the patience of some viewers. Additionally, visual effects, especially in aerial-action scenes, appear jarring at times, and some dialogues feel forced into the narrative. One has seen the airstrike saga on-screen a number of times. But what separates this one is the peek into what goes behind the scenes and that it sidesteps the usual tropes of this genre for the most part. Series must watch for his outstanding performances, intelligent writing, and masterfully interwoven plotlines. It will make you quite intrigued to know everything that happens behind the war zone. My view on this series Highly Recommended.
