Day 1
England captain Ben Stokes again won the toss against Team India and decided to bat first in the 5th & final test at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. Devdutt Padikkal is debuting for India in the place of Rajat Patidar who was injured while Jasprit Bumrah is back in the place of Akash Deep.

England bowled out for 218 runs in their 1st innings. Appalling display of batting from England. One of the best pitches in the series to bat on if not the best. They were equally lucky and did well to survive some testing new ball bowling from Bumrah and Siraj. It looked pretty at 100/1, it looked decent at 175/3 but they lost 5 wickets for 8 runs and threw their towels away. Lack of techqniue, lack of application you can call it whatever you want. Crawley waged a lone battle and looked so good. England just didn’t have answers to Kuldeep and interesting, didn’t have answers to smart field placings from Rohit even though they mastered the art of counterattack in the last 24 odd months. Ashwin had a quiet first 7 overs but in no time picked up four wickets to wrap the innings up. Zak Crawley scored 79 runs and Jonny Bairstow scored 29 runs. For Team India, Kuldeep Yadav picked 5 wickets.

Team India scored 135/1 in their 1st innings on Day 1 stumps. They are trailing by 83 runs with 9 wickets in hand. With the bat, it was Jaisball doing the talking for India once again. The 22-year-old became the second fastest to the 1000-run milestone and threw his wicket away in search of a big hit. England spinners have either been too full or too quick and none of it caused any concerns to the batters so far.

Day 2
Team India scored 473/8 on day 2 stumps. They have now lead of 255 runs with 2 wickets in hand. If India didn’t do well enough to take long strides in this game, this unbeaten 45-run stand has sure dragged England further. Kuldeep Yadav has looked more assured than many of the England batters in the entire series. Bumrah blocked his way initially and managed to nudge around to get some runs too. Rohit and Gill set the first session on fire with positive cricket as both completed their hundreds. Devdutt Padikkal never looked like he was debut as he notched up a fifty but the habit of hanging back to not so short balls eventually got him. Sarfaraz got set and then unleashed in typical fashion. England made a comeback with 4 wickets for 25 runs but Kuldeep and Bumrah frustrated them to stretch India’s lead past 250. Stokes bowled a dream ball to Rohit when he bowled for the first time in international cricket since last year’s Ashes Test at Lord’s. Anderson got one close to 700. Bashir was the pick of the bowlers though with 4 wickets and Hartley joined the party late. Shubman Gill scored 110 runs and skipper Rohit Sharma scored 103 runs. For England, Shoaib Bashir picked 4 wickets.

Day 3
Team India bowled out for 477 runs in their 1st innings. They added just 4 runs from overnight score. England is trailing by huge 259 runs. Major highlight was James Anderson who completed 700 Test wickets. Plenty of hugs and pats for milestone man. Anderson’s Dad is in the crowd, and he looks to be the happiest man on planet earth right now. Ah, what joy! Jimmy is trying his best to hide his emotions as he holds the ball aloft once again to acknowledge the applause that’s ringing in from all corners of the ground. Shubman Gill scored 110 runs and skipper Rohit Sharma scored 103 runs. For England, Shoaib Bashir picked 5 wickets.

England bowled out for 195 runs in their 2nd innings and lost the 5th test by an innings and 64 runs and series by 1-4. The families look a joyful bunch in the stands and their thunderous applause is being greeted with the brightest of smiles from the Indian camp. A fifer Kuldeep in the first innings and a five-for Ashwin in the second innings. India couldn’t have asked for a better game to wrap the series. With the bat, Rohit and Gill made best use of a beauty of a batting track and the trio of Jaiswal, Padikkal and Sarfaraz added their flamboyance to steer India miles ahead of their opponents. Coming back to the day’s play, England knocked the last 2 Indian wickets in the space of 4 overs, and the hosts didn’t break sweat in clinching the inevitable. Plenty of post-match stuff coming your way. For England, Joe Root scored 84 runs and Jonny Bairstow scored 39 runs. For Team India, Ravichandran Ashwin picked 5 wickets.
