Australia bowled out for 212 in their 1st innings. Having won the toss, the Proteas started with three maidens, putting the pressure on the Aussie openers. Rabada struck twice in an over, getting rid of Khawaja and Green. Labuschagne was looking solid, but he poked at a wide delivery, and then Travis Head was strangled down the leg side. Australia recovered in the second session with Smith and Webster buiding a partnership. The former looked busy, shuffling across the crease to make it difficult for the bowlers as he got to a fifty before losing out against the part-time spin of Markram. Webster, who survived an LBW shout early when SA didn’t review, started scoring more freely to get a fifty off his own. Carey fell cheaply trying to reverse sweep Maharaj, and then the bowlers were bundled out by Rabada and Jansen, with the former picking up a fifer. A lively pitch here for the WTC final, let’s see how South Africa responds with the bat. Beau Webster scored 72 runs and Steve Smith Scored 66 runs. For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada picked a fifer.

South Africa scored 43/4 on Day 1 stumps. A fascinating day of Test cricket here at Lord’s as two top quality bowling attacks have really shown their prowess. Starc knocked over Markram in the very first over. Rickelton scored a couple of boundaries, but he was out poking at a wide one. Mulder was attritional, until a Pat Cummins delivery knocked him over, and then Stubbs fell victim to a peach from Hazlewood. South Africa’s skipper Bavuma is looking determined, alongside Bedingham who got two boundaries off the last two deliveries.

Day 2
South Africa bowled out for just 138 runs in their 1st innings. Australia with a lead of 74 and that’s a significant one in the context of the game. Will be a low-scoring game by the looks of it, with the way the pitch was playing. Bedingham and Verreynne came out after lunch, but it was all Cummins after that. He bowled beautifully and took the four out of the five wickets to fall. That ball to Bedingham was an absolute beauty. South Africa had no answers to captain Cummins. A run-out of Maharaj did not help things either. The ball is still moving around, and South Africa will be hopeful of making some inroads with the new ball. A fascinating hour beckons. David Bedingham scored 45 runs and skipper Temba Bavuma scored 36 runs. For Australia, skipper Pat Cummins picked 6 wickets.

Australia scored 144/4 in their 2nd innings. They have led of 218 runs with 2 wickets in hand. What a day of Test match cricket. This game is right in the balance. Another 14-wicket day – like the opening day. Again, the bowlers who have hogged the headlines today. It was Cummins early in the day who helped bowl South Africa out for 138, helping his side gain an invaluable lead of 74. South Africa though came out storming with the ball despite a wicketless 10.1 overs as Khawaja and Marnus added 28. Rabada broke that stand and followed it up with Green’s wicket in the same over. Then Ngidi who was below-par in the first innings came to life with the big wicket of Smith and then got Webster and Cummins. From 28/0, Australia slipped to 73/7. South Africa was on fire then, but Carey and Mitchell Starc stitched a fine partnership of 61 which pushed Australia over the 200-run mark in terms of the overall lead.

Day 3
Australia bowled out for 207 in their 2nd innings and set the target of 282 for South Africa to win the WTC 25. An extremely frustrating partnership for South Africa, one just as fruitful for Australia. A match-defining 59-run stand between Starc and Hazlewood has revived Australia after a disastrous start in their second innings. From being down 134/8, they’ve managed 207 to add to their 74-run first innings lead. So far, Day 3 has been vastly different to the first two days here though. Conditions have changed drastically, the sun has been out and it looks like it’s an excellent time to bat. That Australia’s last pair batted out 22.2 overs says a lot. 282 is undoubtedly a big fourth innings target but South Africa will be the beneficiaries of the best batting conditions we’ve seen so far. Their challenge will lie against the new ball. If they manage to survive against the swinging ball, they would’ve gone a long way in winning this game. Mitchell Starc scored unbeaten 58 runs and Alex Carey scored 43 runs. For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada picked 4 wickets.
A formidable final-wicket partnership from Australia sets a daunting target for the Proteas to chase 🔥

South Africa scored 213/2 in their 2nd innings on day 3 stumps and need just 69 runs to become champions of WTC with 8 wickets in hand. What started as a day of great frustration has ended as a day of great fulfillment for South Africa. 69 runs away, South Africa are on the cusp of a historic win here at Lord’s. 14 wickets fell on both days 1 and 2, just four wickets today on Day 3 – that’s testament to how much easier batting was today. The day started with a rigid 59-run stand between Starc and Hazlewood which helped Australia set what looked like a daunting 282-run target. Australia batted the entirety of the first session much to South Africa’s agitation as their hopes of rolling Australia over cheaply didn’t come to fruition. That emotion, however, was quickly washed away by what transpired in the next two sessions as South Africa, in the best batting conditions seen in this Test so far, batted with confidence, authority and poise. Led by a fantastic century from Aiden Markram, they polished off 213 inside 56 overs. With 8 wickets still in hand, they head into Day 4 as uncontested favorites.

Day 4
South Africa scored 282/5 and won the WTC 2025. They have broken the 27-year jinx of not winning an ICC Trophy. In all those years, no country has endured such massive disappointments and heartbreaks that would numb any ardent supporter of theirs. This side of warriors, led by that absolute warrior Temba Bavuma, will go down in history as the one who finally broke that dreaded ICC curse. They will be feted as heroes on their return back home. And they have done it deservingly too, winning 8 Tests in a row to claim the title. A country which has gone so much both politically and socially finally gets the much-needed ICC win they have been craving for. What better venue than at the Home of Cricket to do it at – under pristine conditions for cricket with the sun out in all its glory. Aiden Markram scored 136 runs and skipper Temba Bavuma scored 66 runs. For Australia, Mitchell Starc picked 3 wickets.
An enthralling contest. A phenomenal triumph. A fitting finale to the Ultimate Test 🏏🔥
