1st ODI between India & Sri Lanka ends as Tie-cricketmovie.com

Wonder cement ODI Series 2024: Sri Lanka staged a remarkable fightback in bowling and batting to end 1st ODI against Team India as Tie at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Now I will share the details of this game match in my way.

1st ODI (India Vs Sri Lanka)
Game Date: 2nd August 2024
Details:
Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka won the toss and elected to bat first in the 1st game against Team India at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. KL Rahul is playing as wicketkeeper in the place of Rishabh Pant.

Sri Lanka scored 230/8 runs in their 20 overs after batting first. Opting to bat, they lost Fernando to Siraj early in the innings. Mendis and Nissanka batted cautiously in the first powerplay but the former was dismissed by Dube for 14. Post that, the three spinners kept a tight leash on the scoring rate. Although Nissanka notched up a fifty, Sri Lanka slipped to 101/5. Sri Lanka were staring down the barrel but unlike the T20Is, their lower order stepped up and bailed them out of trouble. Wellalage stitched three crucial partnerships. First with Liyanage who walked off even though he didn’t get a nick. Next with Hasaranga who batted quite sensibly. And then finally Dananjaya who gave the youngster good support. Plenty of assistance for the spinners but batting got slightly easier against the older ball. Dunith Wellalage is just 21-year-old and has played a gem of an innings and Sri Lanka have a competitive total on the board. Will batting get easier under lights? Dunith Wellalage scored 67* runs of 65 balls and Pathum Nissanka scored 56 runs of 75 balls. For Team India, Arshdeep Singh & Axar Patel picked 2 wickets each.

Team India bowled out for 230 runs despite having 2 wickets in hand and game ends in Tie. The Colombo crowd certainly enjoyed the finish, don’t think India will be happy however. When Dube struck a boundary to level the scores, it was all smiles in the Indian camp, but they look shocked now. Asalanka and Co. have pulled a rabbit out of the hat. Another crazy game of cricket. Rohit got his team off to a flier with a 33-ball fifty and India scored 71 without losing a wicket in the first powerplay. The Sri Lankan spinners applied the brakes. Wellalage, the man who starred with the bat, struck twice in two overs to remove both the Indian openers. Washington Sundar, promoted to four, perished after hitting a boundary. The experienced duo of Kohli and Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship somewhat, but Sri Lanka nipped them out in back-to-back overs. At 132/5, the game was poised nicely. KL Rahul and Axar batted sensibly until the former tried to slogsweep Hasaranga. That high-risk shot brought back Sri Lanka into the contest. Asalanka accounted for the well-set Axar and when Kuldeep fell to Hasaranga, Sri Lanka were on top. The pendulum once again swung towards India with Dube smashing two sixes and a boundary. India needed just one run to win but Asalanka – Sri Lanka’s new captain – provided the killer blow by trapping Dube and Arshdeep lbw off successive deliveries. Skipper Rohit Sharma scored 58 of 47 balls and Axar Patel scored 33 runs of 57 balls. For Team India, Hasaranga & Asalanka picked 3 wickets each.
