Wonder cement ODI Series 2024: First bilateral series won for Sri Lanka against Team India after 27 years. They won the 3rd and final ODI by 110 runs and won the series 2-0 at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Now I will share the details of this game match in my way.

3rd ODI (India Vs Sri Lanka)
Game Date: 7th August 2024
Details:
Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka again won the toss and elected to bat first in the 3rd and final game against Team India at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Two changes in Team India and Rishabh Pant & Debutant Riyan Parag is playing today in the place of KL Rahul and Arshdeep Singh.

Sri Lanka scored 248/7 runs in their 20 overs after batting first. This is the highest total in the series. Sri Lanka keep improving with each game; 1st ODI – 230, 2nd ODI – 240 and now 248. This seemed like the best pitch to bat on for most parts. The Indian spinners didn’t get much assistance for the good part of 20-30 overs which allowed Sri Lanka’s top three to set the innings up. Nissanka and Avishka added 89 runs for the opening wicket and while the former fell short of his fifty, the latter fell four short of his hundred. Kusal Mendis struggled to find a tempo, but he stuck around after Avishka’s dismissal and got the boundaries away at the fag end. Sri Lanka got 31 runs in the last 3 overs and that might be a game-changer. India have struggled to chase down totals and this too won’t be easy. The spinners did get help in the later part of the innings and Sri Lanka will also hope for the same. Avishka Fernando scored 96 runs of 102 balls and Kusal Mendis scored 59 runs of 82 balls. For Team India, debutant Riyan Parag picked 3 wickets for 54 runs in his 9 overs.

Team India unable to chase the target and bowled out for 138 runs in 26.1 overs. Sri Lanka’s spinners have clinched a famous victory for their nation. But what was India’s plan today? They knew it would be trial by spin going by the trend in the first two ODIs and their plan was to be aggressive. That did not work. Rohit once again got them off to a flying start but unlike the first two games where he batted through the powerplay, he succumbed inside it and the procession started thereafter. The Indian batters had no clue against the spinners especially Wellalage who picked up the key wickets of Rohit, Kohli, Iyer and Axar in his first spell and came back to complete his 5-fer. The highest partnership for India came between Washington Sundar and Kuldeep which gives you a fair idea on how things went. They failed to the trial by spin and conceded their first series to Sri Lanka in 27 years Skipper Rohit Sharma scored 35 of 20 balls and Washington Sundar scored 30 runs of 25 balls. For Sri Lanka, Dunith Wellalage picked 5 wickets for 27 runs in his 5.1 overs.
