War 2 Review: Another entertaining stylish action thriller from YRF spy universe despite flaws
War 2 Movie Rating: 3.5 Stars
Watched War 2 movie in Cinema. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my view on this movie.
Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana
Director: Ayan Mukerji
Release Date: 14th August 2025 in cinemas
Story: Movie revolves around Kabir Dhaliwal (Hrithik Roshan) who was once a prized operative of Indian intelligence, vanished into the shadows years ago, only to resurface as one of the country’s most dangerous adversaries. A shady organization called Kali, made up of anonymous members from countries like India, Pakistan, China, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, aims to topple political leaders and install their own puppets.
They recruits Kabir to join their cause, testing his mental strength to ensure his loyalty by killing his mentor-like figure, Sunil Luthra (Ashutosh Rana) which he shockingly does. His daughter Kavya (Kiara Advani) is devastated and swears revenge. Meanwhile Kali next target is India’s prime minister assassination.
RAW’s recruits Vikrant Kaul (Anil Kapoor) as new chief in place of Luthra. He forms a task force led by Indian government soldier Vikram (Jr NTR) with Kavya Luthra also part of the team. The rest of the story follows Vikram’s attempts to capture Kabir and uncovers deeper layers? Why did Kabir kill Luthra? Why did Kabir leave R&AW? What past does he have with Kavya? Can R&AW tackle Kaali and save the Indian Prime Minister from being compromised?

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in cinemas in my free time as loved the trailer and big fan of Hrithik Roshan. Former secret agent Kabir is hired by an international criminal syndicate, Kali, to eliminate India’s Prime Minister and take over the nation. R&AW sends its best soldier Special Units Officer Vikram to stop him.
War 2 story is may not be new but its promising and different from previous spy universe films. With two formidable forces facing off, expect star power, relentless action set pieces, exotic locales, and a visual spectacle throughout the film. Stunts unfold atop bullet trains, airplanes, on a boat, and amid the snowy Swiss mountains. It is a visual treat. The movie packs in several twists, some more effective than others, while the pacing in the second half slows the momentum. The cinematography is stunning, with sleek shots of exotic locations that pop off the screen. The background score does most of the heavy lifting, amplifying the adrenaline in action scenes. The dialogues serve the action well, with punchlines that land at the right moments. “Nation First” emerges as a recurring sentiment that captures the film’s core spirit. While some exchanges feel a bit predictable, the confrontations between Hrithik and Jr. NTR is crackling with tension and charisma, keeping the audience hooked. The action scenes are slick, and the production design feels top-notch. Ayan Mukerji’s take on the spy genre is stylish yet emotionally anchored. He balances scale and spectacle with a more human approach to the characters, something that’s often missing in action blockbusters. While the pacing dips slightly in the middle, the set-pieces and emotional beats are staged with precision, proving his versatility beyond fantasy epics. Hrithik Roshan slips back into Kabir’s shoes effortlessly, exuding the perfect blend of charm and intensity. Jr. NTR delivers a powerhouse performance in his Bollywood debut.
On the flipside, the story feels flat. Despite the grand setup, it never grabs you. The stakes should feel sky-high in an espionage thriller, but they don’t. You’re left wondering why you should care. At nearly three hours, the film drags. It could’ve easily been trimmed by 30 minutes without losing anything. The screenplay needed more focus to make the conspiracy feel urgent. The portion related to childhood of Kabir and Vikram (as soon as the second half starts) is very boring and irritating. Further the build-up of the friendship is so below the mark that the audience never feel for either of them and not even for their friendship. The surprise cameos fall flat and don’t add much. Overall, movie s a grand, entertaining face-off between two powerhouses of Indian cinema. With breathtaking action, strong performances, and a more emotionally resonant plot. It offers enough high-octane moments, striking visuals, and polished production to make for a entertaining big-screen experience. If you prefer movies that are high on action and stylish stunts and thrill, War 2 is the right option. And if you are a Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR fan, then too it is unmissable. My view on this movie Highly Recommended If you are YRF spy universe fans.
