Vikram Vedha Review: Despite being remake this classy action thriller has fresh feel and Hrithik Swag that cannot be missed
Vikram Vedha Movie Rating: 3.5 Stars
Finally watched Vikram Vedha movie in Cinemas. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.
Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf, Yogita Bihani, Sharib Hashmi and Satyadeep Misra
Director: Pushkar & Gayatri
Release Date: 30th September 2022 in Cinemas
Story: It is a remake of the Tamil film of the same name which is inspired by the age-old tale of Vikram Vetal in which King Vikramaditya sets out to capture a cunning demon who repeatedly tells different riddle-filled tales to the king and escapes when the king gives the right answer.
Set in Lucknow, Vikram (Saif Ali Khan) is a senior police officer heading a task force set up to corner dreaded gangsters Vedha (Hrithik Roshan) who is middle-rung gangster who has suddenly risen high in the hierarchy after committing a spate of murders. One day, Vikram kills Vedha’s younger brother, Shatak (Rohit Saraf) during a encounter lead by his best friend Abbas (Satyadeep Misra). While checking the crime scene, the cops realize that one guy who was killed had no weapon in his possession and was presumably innocent. Realizing that this can put them into trouble, Vikram tells his colleagues to plant a weapon in his hand.
Vedha wasn’t present at this place and the hunt to find him continues. One day, the cops get a tip about his whereabouts. As they prepare to leave the police station to kill Vedha, they get the shock of their lives. Vedha coolly walks into the police station and surrenders. The STF members interrogate him one by one but he doesn’t open his mouth. Finally, when Vikram sits opposite him, Vedha asks him to hear his story. He takes him back to 13 years when he used to work for a Kanpur-based criminal, Parshuram (Govind Pandey) and how he won his trust. He also tells him about his brother Shatak and his childhood friend Chanda (Yogita Bihani) and what made him commit his first murder.
He also puts Vikram in a dilemma as Vedha’s story changes his perception of good and evil. Unfortunately for Vikram, before he could hear more stories from Vedha, the latter secures a bail. And the lawyer who gets it done is none other than Priya (Radhika Apte) who is also Vikram’s wife. Same day Abbas got killed and Vikram thought it is Vedha who did this. What happen next is all about this movie.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in cinemas because of Hrithik Roshan even I have watched the original movie in Hindi.
Vikram is an honest officer with the Lucknow police. He is on a mission to find and eliminate gangster Vedha. However when Vedha surrenders himself to the police and starts narrating stories to Vikram, it alters understanding of good and evil.
The first about half an hour of the drama moves a little too slowly but once the pace picks up, it moves ahead like a bullet, giving the audience no time to think. The post-interval portion, especially, moves very fast. The various twists and turns keep the audience on their toes all through. The entire climax sequence is extremely nice and comes as a shock. On the minus side, there are very few light moments. Also, there is a lot of violence. While this would work well for the masses, it would be found excessive by a section of the classes and family audiences. There are portions in the drama which get confusing too.
The film is a retelling of Pushkar-Gayatri’s own Tamil thriller of the same name, which was released in 2017 and starred R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi. Their narrative style is fresh and their presentation is so stylish that the entire film gives a fresh feel. Those who have not seen the original wouldn’t miss the raw, visceral quality of the Tamil version. While it’s the same film with minor variations, it doesn’t punch you in the gut as the original did. Though we must say that the director duo haven’t Bollywoodised it much. The essence of it remains the same.
Overall, movie is a brilliant massy fare that works due to the strong writing, unpredictable moments, lead actors outstanding performances and the electrifying background score. My view on this movie Recommended even if you have watched the original movie in Hindi.
