Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this web-series, planned to watch on premiere day because loved the trailer and its intriguing storyline.
An ex-defense officer Shaan Sengupta now works as a night manager in a five-star hotel in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Life brings another operation to him as a teenage girl asks for his help to save her. The episode leads to him getting his hands on a big syndicate. A turn of events triggers Shan to get back to being an undercover officer as he now aims to take down the bad guy.
The show is officially adapted from the popular 2016 BBC series of the same name, which in itself is based on John le Carré’s 1993 novel with the same title. In the original show, Tom Hiddleston played Jonathan Pine, the night manager and Hugh Laurie essayed the arms dealer Richard Onslow Roper. Though the multiple-award-winning BBC series had six episodes, its Indian adaptation has stretched it out to eight, with only four episodes released yet. The show’s first episode will keep you hooked throughout with the engaging storyline and crackerjack treatment. However, in the parts where Shaan enters Shelly’s estate and befriends his son, Taha, to gain his trust, the pace and thrill intermittently take a slight beating. Although never dull, one eagerly waits for things to pick up again. When Shaan goes full throttle to make inroads into Shelly’s gang, the plot becomes more interesting.
The spy thriller is gripping but not without loopholes. Some of the plot points are unconvincing like Shelly quickly takes Shaan into his folds, even though, as the latter describes, he can see into someone’s soul. So, his motive for letting Shaan into his inner circle is unclear. And even though Shelly’s estate is no less than a fortress, it doesn’t take too much for Shaan to get access to off-limit areas or how quickly Lipika makes him an asset. Excellent performances are major highlight of this series. The first installment has set the tone for the show, and it remains to be seen if the pace and action picks up in the next and drives it out of the park. Overall, it is well adapted intriguing crime thriller that will keep you hooked throughout with the engaging storyline and crackerjack treatment despite few shortcomings. My view on this web-series is Recommended
