Story: Movie revolves around a meek journalist Alok Goyal (Ayushmann Khurrana) who is living with his parents Ram Goyal (Paresh Rawal) and Sudha Goyal (Geeta Agarwal). One day he goes for trekking in the hills with friends. When a ferocious animal attacks him, his life is saved by a beautiful girl Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna).

Alok falls in love with Tadaka who nurses him back to health and even protects him from her own people, the ever hunting Betaals in the secret forest who are hunting for a human to offer to Thamma Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), who has been held captive for over 75 years for breaking a cardinal rule of sucking blood of humans and creating imbalance between two worlds and eventually manages to escape along with Tadaka from the mysterious people in the forest.

As Yakshasan’s men continue their hunt for a human, Tadaka and Aloke elope from the jungle to Delhi, where Alok’s father who is a retired accountant grows suspicious of Tadaka’s actual identity. Is she a vampire or a spirit or a human with superpowers? Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in cinemas on release date as liked the trailer and most importantly its part of Maddock Horror Comedy Universe which movies I liked a lot. The story revolves around a journalist who after encountering a mysterious woman, turns into a vampiric creature called Betal and must save humanity from the bloodlust of an ancient evil.

Taking the franchise forward, Maddock ventures into unchartered territory of mystical creatures, and manage to create an epic and worthy crossover yet original franchise movie, which not only stands tall with-it original story but lay groundwork with its predecessors and future endeavors. This epic saga has everything going for itself, it is fun, wild, original, unique, relatable and above all packed with stellar acting, outstanding VFX, smashing numbers, something we have never seen before on big screen. Thamma features an interesting plot that stands out from other films in the MHCU, and this indeed serves as the film’s biggest USP. Even though the screenplay isn’t very effective, the unique storyline manages to hold our attention to some extent. The first half abounds in light moments and comedy, which keep the viewers in good spirits. There are many scenes in which the audience laugh their hearts out. The drama takes a slightly serious turn after interval, but the humorous angle is not completely sacrificed even post-interval. The romantic track and the extent to which Alok is willing to go to save the love of his life are very heartwarming. The angle of Alok’s father giving him the inspiration and encouragement to go ahead makes the second half even more wholesome Saurabh Goswami’s cinematography masterfully captures both the haunting wilderness and the face-offs between characters. There are epic moments in the second half which will blow audience minds, the showstopping fight between Ayushmann’s character Alok and Bhediya himself. The VFX and choreography of massive face-off is outstanding. Ayushmann Khurrana is in fine form, delivering a sharp comic performance that evolves seamlessly into a darker, more intense turn. Rashmika Mandanna charms as Tadaka, blending innocence with strength, while Nawazuddin Siddiqui adds gravitas and menace in equal measure. Paresh Rawal is the best thing that has happened to the film. He managed to entertain whenever he appeared on screen with his effortless dialogue delivery and comedy timing. Sathyaraj and Abhishek Banerjee were able to generate a few laughs with their cameo appearances. Aditya Sarpotdar’s direction is excellent. He has narrated a difficult story with so much clarity that he deserves all the praise for a job beautifully done. Among all songs, Rahe na rahe hum is supremely melodious and my fav of this movie.

On the negative side, While Thamma has an interesting plot compared to other films in the franchise, it doesn’t offer the same level of entertainment and ultimately doesn’t deliver the desired high or impact. There are a few good funny moments, but they’re scattered throughout and lack consistency. The story makes the film partly enjoyable, but since the good moments are sporadic, it tends to get boring at times. The pacing is the biggest issue for movie, and the editing team could have done a much better job. The movie feels very slow in parts and trimming a song or two would have done a world of good. The finale episode falls flat, feels rushed, and doesn’t leave a strong impact. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is effective, but it would have been much better if he had more screentime. The songs composed by Sachin–Jigar are below par, while the background score feels decent in comparison. The character intro is too quick. The makers don’t invest time in Alok’s work life. In fact, there was no requirement to show Alok is a reporter; it served no purpose. Moreover, Alok was supposed to be a loser, but this aspect doesn’t come across well. Sure, he’s goofy but he also seemed dashing. Overall, movie is decent entertainer that reinforces why the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe continues to be a franchise worth tracking has an exciting idea. Although screenplay doesn’t completely do justice to the story that showed promise but its performances, cinematography and few standout moments will keep you invested. It ends on a thrilling note, teasing the next chapter of the horror-comedy universe. My view on this movie Recommended for MHCU fans.
