Ireland bowled out for just 96 in their 16 overs after batting first. This ground and its conditions were already under scrutiny after the South Africa-Sri Lanka game, now more questions will be asked especially with the big India v Pakistan encounter to be played here. There was plenty of help for the fast bowlers and India made the most of it. Arshdeep struck twice in his second over to send back to Ireland openers and it was just the start as the rest of the pacers joined the party to reduce the score to 50/8. Delany and Little threw their bats around and added 27 for the 9th wicket and that was the highest partnership of the innings. Bumrah broke that partnership and a mix-up between in the last pair ended Ireland’s essay on 96. It is not a big total but the pitch is not a belter. Let’s see how the Indian batters go about this chase. Gareth Delany scored 26 runs of 14 balls and Joshua Little scored 14 runs of 13 balls. For Team India, Hardik Pandya picked 3 wickets for 27 runs in his 4 overs quota.

Team India chased the target successfully by scoring 97/2 in their 12.2 overs. They won with plenty of time to spare, but they do have some bruises to show for it, quite literally. There were just too many deliveries spitting up off a length on a pitch that was a minefield for the batters. Rohit was hit a few times – having to retire hurt because of the blow to his right arm. Pant took a number of blows as well, managing to just about hang in and finish it off. A tournament as big as this one deserves better pitches, and the ones at this venue so far have been disappointing to say the least. We had Sri Lanka getting bowled out for 77 a couple of days ago, and now this today. Ireland were just blown away by a quality performance from the Indian seamers with Hardik taking a three-fer, while Bumrah, Arshdeep and Siraj being in the wickets as well. They feasted on the prodigious movement on offer, the variable bounce and the two-paced nature of the surface. Skipper Rohit Sharma scored 52* of 37 balls and Rishabh Pant scored 36* runs of 26 balls. For Ireland, Mark Adair & Benjamin White picked 1 wicket each.
2⃣ Points In The Bag! 👏 👏#TeamIndia commence their #T20WorldCup campaign with a solid WIN! 🙌 🙌
