Sunflower Season 2 Review: New season failed to match the expectations of its predecessor
Sunflower Season 2 Web Series Rating: 2.5 Stars
Watched Sunflower Season 2 Web Series on Zee5. So, let’s analyze the cast, release date, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this web series.
Cast: Sunil Grover, Adah Sharma, Ranvir Shorey, Girish Kulkarni, Mukul Chadda, Shonali Nagrani, Sonal Jha and Ashish Vidyarthi
Director: Navin Gujral
Release Date: 1st March 2024 on Zee5
Duration: 8 Episodes/ 35 Minutes
Story: Season 2 picks up the threads of its predecessor, delving deeper into the aftermath of Mr. Kapoor’s (Ashwin Kaushal) mysterious demise in a suburban residential society. The investigation, led by officers Digendra aka DG (Ranvir Shorey) and Chetan Tambe (Girish Kulkarni) intensifies as the spotlight shifts to Sonu Singh (Sunil Grover), who has gone missing and becomes a prime suspect once again.
Sonu returned to Mumbai and Police takes him to station and at the same time Mrs Ahuja (Radha Bhatt) also goes to Police station for some issues who is being followed by Mr Ahuja (Mukul Chadda). He by mistaken tell police that he injected poison, and his wife is also part of this crime. They also become part of interrogation along with Sonu. The cops try every tactic to coerce a confession out of him. But to their sheer disappointment, the lack of evidence against him compels them to let him go.
Mr Kapoor’s suspected murder thickens, especially when a new entrant arrives at the gates of Sunflower society Rosie Mehta (Adah Sharma) Who started living in the same house as per bill of Kapoor. Her entry into the equation as Mr Kapoor’s mistress adds a momentary crease since Mr Kapoor’s ex-wife Naina Kapoor (Shonali Nagrani) also claims ownership of the flat that was named after Rosie.
This new development compels DG and Tambe to redirect their resources onto these two characters. Meanwhile, other characters in the background like Mr Iyer, a sweet-talking maid and a few other interesting characters add flavor to the mystery. Whether the cops are able to pin down a suspect is all about this series.
Positives
1. Performances
2. Climax
3. Background Music
4. Initial episodes
Negatives
1. Length
2. Direction
3. Too many subplots
4. Screenplay
Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this web-series, planned to watch this series in premiere day as loved the trailer and its 1st season is one of the best series of Zee5.
Season 2 of Sunflower continues the investigation into Mr. Kapoor’s death, with a majority of the residents and frequent visitors coming under suspicion and being interrogated.
Sunflower S2 is an eight-part situational crime comedy introduces more complex characters, all with altered motives connected to the deceased man. While everyone seems to have motives, the identity of the killer remains a mystery until the end. The narrative, focusing on the investigation and each character’s potential involvement, is written with humor and suspense. Though mostly engaging, the plot feels somewhat overstretched, missing out on the opportunity to go on a crazy trip with quirky characters. However, it remains an intriguing dark comedy, with Sunil Grover’s captivating performance hinting at the potential for another season which is more out of curiosity about the unresolved plot threads rather than genuine excitement for the storytelling.
On the flipside, the series introduces new characters like Adah Sharma’s Rosie, who adds a raunchy twist to the Sunflower Housing Society. However, the feeble script fails to provide a solid foundation, leaving the plot feeling disjointed and lacking coherence. The pacing suffers as the narrative meanders through impromptu dances, waxing sessions, and quirky characters, deviating from the main plot. Too many pompous, self-indulgent subplots, each of which does nothing but take the story in directions that seem utterly random, and dispensable in the larger scheme of things. It disappoints in delivering the promised blend of dark comedy and intrigue. Despite the sincere efforts of a limited few, the series falls short of keeping you yearning for more. Overall, new season fails to match the expectations and level set by 1st part. Although last episode of the series ends on an intriguing cliffhanger, indicating a new season of the show where we can expect a better storytelling. It is a long-winded, mundane and mediocre farce, masquerading as a murder mystery. If you are a big fan of this series or Sunil Gover watch this one else ignore.
