Sita Ramam Review: Visually aesthetic and pleasing love story of a solider that will touch your heartstrings
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani Movie Rating: 4 Stars

Just watched Sita Ramam movie in Hindi on Hotstar. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur, Rashmika Mandanna and Sumanth
Director: Karan Johar
Release Date: 2nd September 2022 in Cinemas and 18th Nov 2022 in Hotstar in Hindi

Story: In 1960, Lieutenant Ram (Dulquer Salmaan) is posted in Kashmir and is part of the Madras Regiment. After a heroic deed, he becomes a national hero of sorts and gets a lot of fan mail. One such fan addresses him as her husband and introduces herself in her first letter to him, as Sita Mahalakshmi (Mrunal Thakur).

Besotted by her, Ram sets out in search of her. The two meet and sparks fly. Battling family opposition, Sita leaves her home to marry Ram. But before they can get married, Ram is sent on an important mission. Twenty years later, Pakistani army man Abu Tareeq’s (Sachin Khedekar) grand-daughter Afreen (Rashmika Mandana) is assigned the task of delivering a letter written by Ram two decades ago, to Sita.

The task is onerous because Afreen neither knows the whereabouts of Ram and Sita nor anything else about them. She seeks the help of her friend, Balaji (Tharun Bhascker) to track down both of them but not much information is available about the two. Ultimately, Ram’s senior in the army Brigadier Vishnu Sharma (Sumanth) reveals explosive information about Ram. Does Afreen succeed in delivering the letter to Sita? Does Afreen also meet Ram? Why is their love story one of a kind?

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on its Hindi premiere on OTT as loved the trailer.

Set in 1964, Lieutenant Ram, an orphaned army officer serving at the Kashmir border, gets anonymous love letters from Sita Mahalakshmi, after which Ram is on a mission to find Sita and propose his love.

Sita Ramam has a wonderful story which has a lot of layers. The love story has its heart in the right place. It is so pure that the audience takes to Ram and Sita like fish takes to water. Since the film is the love story of an army man, the two dramas (love and army) move concurrently, adding to the excitement of the audience. While the light scenes are entertaining, the emotional scenes tug at the heart strings so hard that the weak-hearted would end up in tears at several places. The scene in which Ram receives his first lot of fan mail is emotional, because he is an orphan. The scene in which Ram meets his ‘sister’ is also emotional. Other emotional scenes are the ones in which Ram and Sita are to get separated, the scenes of the Pakistani prison, the scene in which Afreen learns something about her childhood, etc. Several revelations in the pre-climax and climax are wonderful. Hanu Raghavapudi’s direction is excellent. He has handled the pure love story with the sensitivity it required. Dulquer and Mrunal steal the show in Sita Ramam. For a film like this to work, you need to be invested in their story and the actors do a good job in ensuring that.

On the flipside, the first half of the film is slow-paced. Director took more time to get into the actual plot. Even though the story is set well, it takes more of the screen time. The editing team could have done an, even more, better job by reducing the length to prop up the film’s tempo. The theme of the movie may not appeal to the masses. The songs at places come as speed breakers disturbing the flow of the film. The film turns out a bit slow at times making it feel lengthy. Vishal Chandrasekhar’s music is melodious but none of the Hindi songs is popular.

Overall, movie is a beautiful love story scintillating performances by all the lead cast, the pleasing narrative, and the poetic writing will make you poignant and heartwarming. It is a work of perfection and deserves to be celebrated. Movie is just a brilliantly crafted, beautiful love story that leaves you completely overwhelmed by the time you walk out of the theatre. My view on this movie Highly Recommended.
