Sanak Review: This hostage drama rests only on Vidyut Jammwal presence and his action sequences
Sanak Movie Rating: 2.5 Stars
Just watched Sanak movie on Disney Plus Hotstar VIP. So let’s focus on the cast, release date story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.
Cast: Vidyut Jammwal, Rukmini Maitra, Neha Dhupia and Chandan Roy Sanyal
Director: Kanishk Varma
Release Date: 15th October 2021 on Disney Plus Hotstar VIP
Story: Vivaan Ahuja (Vidyut Jammwal) is married to Anshika (Rukmini Maitra). On their 3rd anniversary they find out that Anshika is suffering from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that can prove fatal if she doesn’t go for an immediate surgery. The cost of the treatment is Rs. 70 lakhs and Vivaan sells his flat as he is running short of money. Her treatment begins at Green Hills Multi Speciality Hospital, Mumbai.
The surgeon successfully operates on Anshika who is due to be discharged from the hospital. When Vivaan goes to pick up his wife and bring her back home after the surgery, he is shocked to see that a group of terrorists led by Saju (Chandan Roy Sanyal) has laid siege on the hospital to free criminal Ajay Pal Singh (Kiran Karmarkar) who has been brought to the hospital by the police in a serious condition.
Top police officer Jayati Bhargav (Neha Dhupia) is handling the case. She has an additional tension to deal with because her young daughter Aanya (Adrija Sinha) is held captive by the terrorists (who do not know that she is Jayati’s daughter) and strapped with bombs on her body. Luckily Vivaan has got hold of the bag containing the detonator which would be needed to blow up Aanya and therefor the hospital. How Vivaan kills the terrorists one by one is rest of the story.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on the first day of release because of action sequences and Vidyut Jammwal.
is the story of a hospital which is under attack from terrorists, and how a young man, Vivaan Ahuja rises to the occasion and saves not only his wife, Anshika Maitra who was to be discharged from the hospital the same day, but also the other patients and staff members of the hospital.
Story is interesting and makes for a great action entertainer but it novelty and also screenplay is not consistently good. The first half is well fleshed out and few sequences are penned very nicely. Also, the hero vs villain confrontations over the walkie talkie keeps viewers engrossed. However, the second half is needlessly dragging. The slo-mo walk of Vidyut after he kills one baddie after another shows that these scenes were written keeping the single screen audiences in mind. The action scenes are also novel this time and hence, those feeling that Vidyut Jammwal’s stunts are getting repetitive will be in for a surprise.
The film sets the mood once Captain Saju enters the hospital and begins his attack. To give credit where it’s due, the action scenes are well choreographed and don’t give a déjà vu of the scenes of any past film of Vidyut Jammwal. The scenes which work big time are the action scenes in the parking lot, MRI room, Physiotherapy room and store room. My view on this movie Recommended if you are action movie lovers.
