Raid 2 Review: Engaging crime thriller despite flaws
Raid 2 Movie Rating: 3 Stars

Watched Raid 2 movie in Cinema. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Vaani Kapoor, Amit Sial, Saurabh Shukla, Yashpal Sharma and Brajendra Kala
Director: Rajkumar Gupta
Release Date: 1st May 2025 in cinemas

Story: Set in 1989, film begins when IRS officer Amay Patnaik (Ajay Devgn) raids the palace of Raja Kunwar (Govind Namdeo) in Jaipur and confiscates truckloads of black money. Raja’s manager offers a bribe and surprisingly, Amay accepts the offer and gets caught and is transferred to Bhoj.

The town is ruled by cabinet minister Manohar Dhankar aka Dada Bhai (Riteish Deshmukh). He’s someone who’s morally flawed but holds his mother’s blessings above all. Amay is surprised to see that he’s unable to find a single clue of money hoarding or corruption against Dada Bhai or any other resident. Realizing that something is fishy, Amay starts looking around and interacts with the local residents to find out more information.

Soon, he comes across evidence that makes it clear that Dada Bhai is corrupt. Amay’s senior Anjani Kaul (Rajat Kapoor) approves the raid. Amay and his team raided on Dada Bhai house, hotels and other properties but unable to find a single instance of unaccounted money. He soon realizes that Dada Bhai is possibly the shrewdest corrupt suspect that he has come across and is compelled to change his strategies so that he can expose Dada Bhai. Their clash of wills and the cat and mouse game which ensues forms the crux of the film.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in cinemas on release day as loved the trailer and also liked its 1st Part. The new film focuses on Indian Revenue Service Officer Amay Patnaik who has seized over 4200 crores in his raids’ till then, tracks another white-collar crime. This time, he conducts his 75th raid on the premises of Dada Manohar Bhai

Raid 2 has an interesting story and screenplay. The story has plenty of turns and twists because of which the viewers remain engrossed in the drama. The pace is reasonably fast and, therefore, the audience don’t get time to think. The second half, in which Amay Patnaik proves one-up on Dadabhai, is more entertaining and exciting. Yes, some portion of the post-interval part is a bit too technical and may, therefore, be a bit difficult for the public to understand, but that does not mean that the viewers would be thrown off-track. Even if the intricate details are a bit confusing, the audience would understand the overall proceedings and hence would not miss out on the entertainment value. Dialogues, penned by all the four, are punch-packed and some are even clapworthy. The first half is decent, and director reserves the best for the second half. This is where the film shows his true brilliance. Raj Kumar Gupta’s direction is both, interesting and engaging. He has made a reasonably entertaining fare. Ajay Devgn is in his element yet again and gets good support from Riteish Deshmukh and other cast.

The first Raid was an experience with shocking twists that captivated the audience. But here, the raid feels forced. Right from the start, a pointless song plays, which adds to the frustration. The film tries to promote its songs, but sadly, Bollywood’s music taste has also deteriorated. The raid is brief, and most of the time, the hero acts more like a detective than an income tax officer. The film feels slow, boring, and predictable. The audience can easily guess what’s coming next. The outcome does not match the film’s ambition and the performances, commendably restrained as they are, fail to offset the drudgery. Overall, movie makes a strong and enduring impact, driven by its gripping drama, a formidable antagonist, and a second half that strikes an engaging balance between entertainment and intensity culminating in a climactic sequence that stands out as the film’s crowning achievement. My view on this movie Recommended for franchise and Ajay Devgn fans.
