Director: Sukumar
Release Date: 5th December 2024 in cinema
Story: It is the second instalment in the Pushpa film series and the sequel to the 2021 film Pushpa: The Rise. Pushpa Raj (Allu Arjun) continues his rise in the red sandalwood smuggling world while balancing his marital life with Srivalli (Rashmika Mandanna). He is still very sad about the fact that his half-brother, Molleti Mohan Raj (Ajay), ridicules him on the slightest pretext as he is the illegitimate child of their father.
Simultaneously, his rival Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil) schemes to avenge his humiliation and Mangalam Srinu (Sunil) waits for an opportunity to reclaim the syndicate he lost. While he’s a devoted husband who listens to his wife, his ruthlessness knows no bounds. When a Chief Minister (Aadukalam Naren) refuses to take a photo with him, Pushpa doesn’t just sulk, but he plans to replace the CM with MP Siddappa (Rao Ramesh).
To finance this political gamble, Pushpa plans an international operation to transport a massive stockpile of red sandalwood to an international client Hamid (Saurabh Sachdeva). Pushpa uses all his contacts to ensure that the client’s needs are met. However, he faces several challenges. Will Pushpa overcome all and what happened next is all about this movie.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in cinemas on first day as loved the 1st part and waiting for the sequel. The plot revolves around a turbulent and fierce battle between Pushpa Raj, a coolie turned Mafia kingpin and Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, a psychotic and a ruthless police officer.
Pushpa 2 The Rule story is fast paced and keeps your interest arrested throughout with a fitting background score. While the first film chronicled Pushpa’s rise to power and dominance within the red sandalwood smuggling syndicate, the second chapter shifts its focus to the consequences of his newfound position. Pushpa’s world grows more perilous as he faces increasing threats, both from within the smuggling network and from the law. The best part of the screenplay is that it balances all the three parts as Pushpa’s business and rise, his relationship with the wife, and his tension with his half-brother so wonderfully that it becomes a wholesome entertainer. If the action climax is terrific, the emotional climax thereafter is equally remarkable, and it will be adored by the family audience. The scene in which Srivalli gives Pushpa’s half-brother a piece of her mind is exceptional. For me the key sequences stand out as highlights, such as Pushpa Raj’s introduction, his decision to back Siddappa as Chief Minister, the river transport of red sandalwood, the dramatic Jathara scene, and the emotional moment where he protects the dignity of a family. These moments not only enhance the story but also leave a lasting impact on the audience. Pushpa’s dissatisfaction with his identity and the emotional weight of his actions add depth to the character, making his journey both relatable and riveting. Cinematography is breathtaking, particularly in action scenes, night sequences, and forest backdrops. The biggest takeaway from movie is the leading actors Allu Arjun and Fahadh Faasil. Both deliver exceptional performances and fully embodying their characters and elevating the story even though Rashmika Mandanna and the supporting performances feel somewhat lackluster. Sukumar’s direction is outstanding. His narrative style is such that people of all age groups and all kinds will find the drama entertaining and engrossing.
On the downside, the film suffers from a prolonged narrative. Biggest disappointments lies in the underexplored dynamic rivalry between Pushpa and Bhanwar Singh Shekawat which was teased as a major conflict at the tail end of the first installment. While the ego clash between the two men takes center stage, the film fails to deliver the epic showdown it had the potential to become. Instead of crafting a climactic confrontation, the movie shifts its focus to a bigger looming threat for Pushpa, which is left to unravel in the third installment. This lack of depth in the screenplay is further compounded by a lagging and drawn-out editing pattern. With a runtime of 3 hours and 20 minutes, the film feels unnecessarily stretched, with several segments that could have been trimmed to improve pacing. Additionally, while the film boasts a massive ensemble cast, the narrative fails to make the audience truly invested in the supporting characters. While the background score complements the film’s energy, the music is its weakest link. These underwhelming aspects leave the film teetering between slightly surpassing its predecessor and merely staying on the same level.
Overall movie is an unmissable cinematic experience. It builds on the success of its predecessor, delivering a compelling mix of action and emotion. Allu Arjun’s magnetic performance, Sukumar’s gripping storytelling, and stellar technical aspects make it a worthy sequel. While some characters could have had more prominence, the film succeeds in meeting the high expectations set by its prequel. It’s a film designed for mass appeal, celebrating the joy of larger-than-life storytelling. It’s the kind of cinema that revitalizes theatres and reminds us why movies are meant to be a shared, community experience. My view on this movie Highly recommended.
