Pitchers Season 2 Review: A worthy sequel thanks to its true-to-life characters and themes of start-up business challenges that millennials can relate to
Pitchers Season 2 Web Series Rating: 3.5 Stars

Just watched Pitchers Season 2 Web Series on Zee5 Premium. So, let’s analyze the cast, release date, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this web series.

Cast: Naveen Kasturia, Arunabh Kumar, Abhay Mahajan, Abhishek Banerjee, Ronjini Chakraborty, Riddhi Dogra
Director: Arunabh Kumar & Vaibhav Bundhoo
Release Date: 23rd December 2022 on Zee5 Premium
Duration: 5 Episodes/ 60 Minutes

Story: The story of the series picks up effortlessly from where it left off in the first season, seven years ago by showing the survival of their start-up in the cut-throat competition. Naveen (Naveen Kasturia), Mandal (Abhay Mahajan) and Yogi (Arunabh Kumar) are now running their own company, ‘Pragati AI’, and are waiting for Series A funding to scale up their fledging start-up.

Naveen plans to do a partnership with one of the offline corporate giants of their sector KC Enterprises owner Ashish Vidyarthi and tries his best to contact them but in vain. Having repeatedly tried to reach out, he finally gets a chance. After discussing for quite some time, the partnership was almost finalized at 50 crores.

But just as the entire team was planning a celebration, they received a notification that the partnership was not happening, thereby realizing that the game would not be easy. Alpha 1 owner Prabhash Mehta (Sikander Kher) signed the deal with them for 75 crores. But the Pitchers teach us never to lose hope and that no matter how dark it is, there is always a ray of light. Naveen then comes up with the concept of ‘PIVOT’, which according to him might prove to be game-changing. Pivoting is when start-ups change the course of their action or product to meet the latest demands of the industry.

Soon, they come across another problem when they require a CTO. This is where the Pitchers miss Jeetu (Jitender Kumar) who was their CTO in Season 1. Amid tension, tight deadlines, and work pressure, there is frustration and anger boiling within. No reimbursements, no approvals, delayed work and most importantly no funds- Naveen’s co-workers seem to have become hopeless and the situation gets out of hand! They finally gear up again and launch ‘Pragati 2.0’ but the problem of funds prevails.

Their trusted investor Prachi (Riddhi Dogra) gets an investment for them but Naveen thinks its low valuation and as per mentor suggestion Bhati (Abhishek Banerjee), Naveen and his partners meet with different VC’s and gets multiple valuation for their company. But due to multiple reasons including tax allegation they didn’t get any fund. The Pitchers engage in a heated argument over this issue. There company is on the verge of shutdown. Alpha1 owner gives a proposal to acquire Pragati. What happen next is all about this series.

Positives
1. Excellent Performance
2. Direction
3. Screenplay
4. Climax
5. Background Music

Negatives
1. Length
2. Predictable Story
3. Unnecessary Sub-plot

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this web-series it looks interesting and planned to watch on premiere day because loved the 1st season and always loved TVF shows.

The story is set years after the end of season 1 and traces the story of the same startup that was founded by the four friends. When an investor deal falls through, Naveen decides to pivot their company. Employees resign, their product fails, and personal relationships go through several tests. Will the Pitchers survive?

New season revolves around three young, passionate individuals trying to find their space and make it big in the start-up world as they face numerous hurdles on their path. As it is said that the road to success isn’t smooth, it becomes all the more difficult when you have to deal with corporate unicorns, shark venture capitalists, a dash of office tantrums and to top it all your continually draining bank balance. A gripping storyline that shows the basic human instincts when one is frustrated, the way you get angry with the people you are closest to, how it’s always the closest people that one hurts the most, the value that each individual has on our lives, and the ruthless corporate world where ideas can be bought, sold and copied and valuation is the only metric to success.

The series shows that no war can be fought on its own and come what may, the show must go on. With outstanding cinematography, the makers have showcased subtle emotions, like despair, hopelessness, the changing lives and the value of friendships. A few close-up shots emphasised the emotions beautifully, without any dialogue, throughout the journey from ‘Death Valley’ to ‘Silicon Valley’. The makers have created the series in such a way that we can picture ourselves in the storyline and things seem quite relatable. We start forming a connection with the characters and laugh and cry with them as the show goes on. The ending could have been a bit more dynamic rather than an ‘Alls well that ends well’. Also, the sudden appearance of Naveen’s girlfriend at the end seemed a bit out of place.

Overall, it is one of the better sequels, at a time when most Indian shows are churning out crappy new seasons of popular shows. Series is a worthy sequel, thanks to its true-to-life characters and themes of start-up business challenges that millennials can relate to. Enjoy the triumphant return of this pitcher’s gang series is a must-watch, and you won’t be able to stop until you have watched it all at once. My view on this web-series is Highly Recommended.
